Why It's Important to Keep Relentlessly Making Fun of Sarah Palin

Some idiot Palinophile left a comment here yesterday (which I deleted, natch) whining, basically, "Give it a rest, the election is over." But, oh, nuh-uh, not so fast! Besides being an obvious and irresistible target for satire 'n' catty bitchiness, there are some totally good reasons to not let up: 1. She's a politically dangerous Christian lunatic. 2. Any attempt to take her seriously must be counteracted. 3. Her lies are pernicious. 4. She fosters ignorance and insipidity. 5. She's ambitious and would like to rule you.

OMG, I'm totally using words her fans wouldn't understand! Want better, more serious reasons? Head on over to Sarah Enemy #1's place and read the most succinct summary of why this frightening woman's political career must be stopped.

Ooooh, what a letdown! We all got so totally excited by Condi's makeover, but it's all gone, repossessed by the RNC, no doubt. Condi, you should grab hold of that stylist and never let go. Oh well, carry on. The Hairdo Alert Level™ has been lowered, disappointingly.

I Want to Believe

OMG, MUST CREDIT NATIONAL ENQUIRER FOR THIS CONVINCING PHOTO!

Sorry, National Enquirer, but you're going to have to do a LOT better than this to convince me that Goddess Cindy would stoop to kissing a be-ponytailed ersatz rocker in public. I love the pseudo-horrified reactions "reported" in the story, though, where people are totally all, like, I SAW MRS. MCCAIN FRENCHING THAT GUY AT THE MOODY BLUES CONCERT AND I SCREAMED AND SCREAMED AND THEN SLIT MY WRISTS AND ATE MY OWN HEAD I WAS SO UPSET!!!

Cindy, you know I don't believe a word of this, right?

Here's How Boring This Blog Would Have Been if Bobby Jindal Had Been Stupid Enough to Accept McCain's Offer:

Bobby wore a red tie again today. God, don't you hate red ties? If you're like me, you've had it up to here with Bobby's red ties. I bet the RNC spent, like, $20, maybe even up to $40 for that tie. And Supriya, who is neither incongruously attractive nor amusingly ugly, wore another one of her tasteful, unremarkable conservative suits. I have to go kill myself right now.

See? SEE? Do you see how bad it could have been? Thanks again, Bill Kristol, for the wonderful gift of Sarah Palin. And, of course, to Bobby Jindal, a man who knows a bad deal when he sees one.

Michael Steele as Head of the RNC? Yes, Please!

Steele at the convention, 09/02/08 (AP)

Oh, yes, yes, yes, anything to put Sparklefave Michael "Puppy Lover" Steele back in the spotlight! Let's see, they need somebody to "lead them out of the wilderness," so how about a total dunderhead who lost his race for the Senate by double digits to an absolute nobody? How about somebody whose main selling point was a Boston terrier? How about somebody who got busted for having homeless people distribute fliers implying he was a Democrat? Do you need somebody to combat notions of GOP racism? Why not hire somebody whose campaign produced some of the most shockingly racist ads of all time? Awesome idea!

I will say, though, Michael: LOVE the windowpane/polka-dot combination, even if the suit doesn't fit.

She'll Never Learn, Thank Goodness

(NBC News)

I was oddly disappointed with Matt Lauer's and Greta Whatshersame's interviews with Sarah Palin over the last few days. She's totally stuck on repeat, isn't she? Blah, blah, blah, the campaign wardrobe stories are false, blah, blah, blah, I never tried to get books banned, blah, blah, blah, people saying mean things about me are... mean. Or bloggers living in their parents' basements. Whatever.

So I was relieved to read the post interview analysis by error-prone NY Times TV scribe Alessandra Stanley, because she points out two wonderful things: Sarah Palin remains utterly, completely self-obsessed, and she will never, ever admit that she did anything wrong or even that she could have done anything better. Never once was there a moment of self examination apparent in these TV appearances, neither a whiff of regret for a stumble nor an acknowledgment that, you know, maybe she should brush up on a thing or two so as not to look like an overreaching cheerleader trying out for the debate squad. This magical combination of personality flaws guarantees that Sarah will continue to be entertaining for years to come, even if her chats with Matt 'n' Greta were duds.

What a relief! Praise her!

What's All This About Obama Picking Robin Gibb as His New Press Secretary?

It's an audacious (isn't that the word we're supposed to use?) choice, I'll give you that, but haven't we had enough jive talking from Perino and Fratto?

Speaking of Makeovers...

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice attends the 2008 Glamour Women of the Year Awards at Carnegie Hall in New York on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. (AP Photo/Peter Kramer)

What can I say? I've been one of Condi's harshest critics, but last night at the Glamour thingy, she looked... sensational. Condi! Wow! Here's a little more info:

Coming so close on the heels of the election, the ceremony's typically motley mix of politicians and entertainers felt particularly pronounced. Fergie, wearing white and silver Michael Kors, gushed that she wanted to meet honoree Hillary Clinton: "I'm putting that out there."

Honoree Tyra Banks, sporting sleek black Gucci, said she was nervous about the company she was keeping. "I heard they don't have a teleprompter, so I'm like, 'OK, I'm going to just have to go off the cuff in front of Hillary Clinton and (fellow honoree) Condoleezza Rice.' "

Banks shouldn't have feared. Rice revealed that though she hasn't exactly had the time to take in America's Next Top Model over the past eight years (Banks says, however, that presenter Michael Bloomberg is supposed to be a fan), she was excited to meet the model turned media mogul.

Nicole Kidman, in town to promote her new film, Australia, paraded a L'Wren Scott cream sheath down the red carpet. Of her Women of the Year award, she said: "It's such a privilege. I feel a little overwhelmed."

Rice, resplendent in a chocolate and gold Oscar de la Renta gown, had kind words about her fellow A-list political honoree, Clinton: "I'm very fond of her, and I think she's a great lady."

Rice, who's looking forward to her own kind of change come Jan. 20 — heading back to Stanford, writing a book or two — said of another A-list political woman, Michelle Obama: "She looks wonderful in everything she wears." Her fashion advice to the future first lady? "It's OK to wear red once in a while."

Resplendent is right:

And the hair! OMG, the hair:

I'll have to monitor this fabulous hairdo development carefully over the next few days. That looks like an honest-to-goodness new style! I like it; it's, like, 80% less helmetty. Gosh! She's ready to star in a revival of Peter Pan! I have to sit down.

EDIT: I really don't like having to do this, but I'm afraid I have to show how awful Hillary looked, particularly when standing next to the adorable Ugly Betty pixy:

Idiots Complain About Imbeciles

When a two-thousand-year-old Middle Eastern resurrection cult butts heads with a 19th century revision of a two-thousand-year-old Middle Eastern resurrection cult, something's got to give:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Holocaust survivors said Monday they are through trying to negotiate with the Mormon church over posthumous baptisms of Jews killed in Nazi concentration camps, saying the church has repeatedly violated a 13-year-old agreement barring the practice.

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints say they are making changes to their massive genealogical database that will make it more difficult for names of Holocaust victims to be entered for posthumous baptism by proxy, a rite that has been a common Mormon practice for more than a century.

Read the whole article and be amazed that people are actually fighting about this mythological nonsense. People are very upset! People are very stupid! And, no, before you say anything, I really don't have to respect anything about either side of this dizzyingly stupid conflict. It's 2008! OMG, they made Aunt Esther a Mormon! And she hated Utah!

Random Sarah Palin Makeover

Michele Bachmann Calls Kettle Black, Un-American

(AP Photo, 09/19/08)

I've got to admit that I'm super-happy that Michele Bachmann got reelected, because everybody hates her and she'll be powerless and unhappy in congress anyway, so she can continue to be humorous and dumb and, oh, just one of my favorite politicians EVER. Here's what she thinks of all the mean things people said about Sarah Palin:

A conservative Christian congresswoman says although the attacks on Sarah Palin's reputation leveled by McCain campaign insiders are "over the top and hurtful," they will embolden base conservatives to rally to the Alaska governor's cause even more.

Anonymous McCain aides have been quoted in various media outlets as saying that the governor did not know Africa was a continent and could not name the three countries in the North American Free Trade Agreement. She has also been blamed for McCain's defeat and accused of ignoring the advice of McCain advisers during the campaign.

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), a staunch supporter of Palin, says it is disappointing that McCain campaign insiders would be so "vicious" in their attacks against Palin -- not to mention so soon after the election.

Wheee! This is Michele Bachmann, who almost lost her seat by calling Obama "anti-American," complaining that people were "over the top" about Palin. Oh Michele, don't ever stop being Michele. And by being Michele I mean, of course, being an amusing idiot.

Bachmann/Palin in 2012!

Ha, Ha! Back to Unglamorous Work 4U!

Oh, sure, the AP photographers are still buzzing around, but for how much longer (FOREVER, please)? Girl, you have GOT to get out of that den of balding bores.

Great Britain Bids a Fond Farewell to George Bush

OMG, you simply have to go over to The Telegraph to see their goodbye photo gallery of George Bush. They basically rounded up all the most retarded shots they could find, and you will laugh and laugh at what a ridiculous cretin he is. Or you will sob. Whatever.

Quickie: Energizer Bunny

Whoah, it's kinda like a news vacuum right now, isn't it?

Anyway, one thing keeps striking me as I look at how Republicans are interpreting their huge losses this election cycle: they have no idea what their "base" is. The best example of this is how various people keep talking about how Sarah Palin "energized the base." Huh? Sarah Palin energized two totally non-overlapping groups of Republicans: rural, Christian fundamentalist xenophobic idiots and ivy league neocons. Does the GOP really believe either of these fringe groups is their base? Did they look at Palin's approval rating free-fall? Do they really think the neocon-led foreign policy of the past eight years is viewed as a success? Do they honestly still believe the Christianists have much clout with the general public?

George Bush energized the real Republican base: the suburbanites, the city conservatives, the "security moms" (remember them?), in addition to the extreme right wings (please note the plural).

So anyway, as long as the GOP keeps mistaking their most extreme elements as their "base," they're going to keep hemoraging their real base. And I, for one, couldn't be happier.

UPDATE: It occured to me that this would be like the Democrats referring to Daily Kos diarists and PETA members as their base.

UPDATE: Adorable Bear King Still Disappointingly Beardless

A while ago I would have been so excited that Condi was going to meet with King Abdullah, but ever since he started shaving, it just isn't the same. He just kinda looks like an ordinary guy now, not the adorable King Kub with whom I was strangely infatuated. Sad!

Earlier, Condi met with Mahmoud Abbas, and they had a press conference, and she was all, like, "Annapolis! Remember Annapolis?" like anything really happened there or something. It's pretty much all she has left. You'll always have Maryland, Condi!

God, so boring. Come back, Sarah Palin, I need you!

Let's Say Goodbye to the One Great Thing About the McCain Campaign

Image via McCainBlogette.com

Awwww... I am really going to miss the FANTASTIC Cindy, and coming across these photos of her in her bathrobe on daughter Megan's inane blog proves that she looks incredible in anything and everything. I'm a little disturbed that she's giving the gift of what must be horrible fashion to Megs, but let's assume it was a requested brand, not Cindy's choice, OK? Because Juicy Couture... just... no. Unacceptable. Sorry. Let's look at Cindy again:

She looks like a fun mom! But oh, noes! Here comes somebody icky:

Watch out, Cindy! Knot that belt!

Oh, Cindy. I'm going to miss you most of all. You totally don't need this campaigning nonsense, and you looked so happy it was over on Tuesday night! You couldn't disguise your relief, so I'm super happy for you. On to better and more fabulous things! But please, Cindy, don't disappear completely; I don't think I could take it.

And do I really need to say this one last time? I do: NO MEAN COMMENTS ABOUT CINDY. She is superior to all of us!

Condi Sees Her Legacy Sailing Off into the Sunset Without Her

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (L) and Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni hold a joint news conference at the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Israel in Herzliya, near Tel Aviv November 6, 2008. The White House acknowledged for the first time on Thursday that Israel and the Palestinians were unlikely to reach a peace deal before President George W. Bush leaves office in January. Rice, beginning a four-day visit to the Middle East, said Israel's decision to call a parliamentary election, scheduled for Feb. 10, had created a "different situation" that made it "very difficult" to come to an agreement. REUTERS/Pavel Wolberg/Pool (ISRAEL)

OK, so that caption is really funny, as is this article, for instance. "Rice admits Middle East deal this year is unlikely," says the headline, so you'd think that she came right out and said that in coherent sentences. But you'd be so, so wrong! She talked to her traveling companions on her magic airplane on the way over, and then gave a presser with her lesbian lover, Tzipi, afterward, and OMG, so funny! Here's a sampling of the reporters' questions, and you can just hear them getting increasingly exasperated with Condi's nonsensical non-answers:

  • When might those circumstances permit? You’re talking about after the Israeli election or after – so it’s done and the end of year goal is finished?
  • But you seem to recognize that there won’t be any agreement. Does it mean that you would be ready to offer a document or to prepare something, kind of frame – role – framework that the parties would use in the next – in the future?
  • Just to ask the question in a very bald way: Both the parties, at very senior levels, have said an agreement is not possible this year. Do you concur?
  • You said it was going to be important at some point to wrap all this together. How do you envisage that?
  • You talked to – a moment ago about sort of stating the obvious. Why are you reluctant to just state the obvious, that the end of the year simply isn’t possible?

And a typical Condi response:

Now you say, is this the end of the process, or someone asked is it the end of the process for me. As I said, I’ve learned not to predict. And I expect to be continuing to work on this with the parties until the day that we leave. But the important thing is to make certain that there is a recognition of the substantial progress that they have made, a recognition of the commitment that these parties have made to concluding the work of Annapolis, and a solid international foundation of support for what they’ve tried to do and what they’re going to continue to try to do.

Um, OK! Whatever you say, Condi! You've got to hand it to her, though, for coming up with so many ways to vaguely, meaninglessly imply the same thing, none of which were anywhere near as clear as "Rice admits Middle East deal this year is unlikely." Kudos to The Independent's crack team of translators!

And of course the reporters couldn't resist asking about Obama and trying to goad Condi into saying whether or not she was sad McCain lost, but she wasn't having any of it. One enterprising reporter, though, found a way to combine Obamamania and Condi's peace failures into one compact, super-meanypants query which may be the single cruelest question she's ever gotten:

Madame Secretary, do you think that your service as Secretary of State, one of the highest jobs in the United States, as Secretary Powell’s job, was one of the elements that led to a change of hearts in the American people and led to the election of Barak Obama as the first African American president? And what you will recommend him to do? You know that he is for engagement. Will you recommend him to engage on the Syrian track or to neglect it totally, ignore it, as you did?

In other words, "Are you going to give the new SOS advice on how not to suck like you?" OMG, so mean! Condi did not answer the question.

OK, I Think the Sad Republicans are Trying to be Funny on Purpose Now

Seriously! OK, so I already said that Free Republic was too easy a target, but when you hear that they now want to boycott Fox News for saying that Sarah Palin... um... doesn't know what Africa is, it's simply too, too funny to resist. What are they going to do, stick to Hee Haw DVDs?

And the nuttiness continues as the wackiest GOPsters circle their wagons ever tighter around Alaska's saddest joke. Here's Glen Beck, for instance, saying that lots of people voted for McCain actually hoping he'd die quick so there would be President Sarah.

And I'm assuming you've already heard about Red State's "operation leper" to punish Palin heresy by now. This, too, cannot possibly be real.

I mean... this is just some brilliant satirical lampoonist hacking these obvious jokes into Republican sites around the web, right? Because the satire goddess is never this generous. But then again, she did deliver Sarah Palin to us in the first place!
