Robin Givhan Displays Long-Term Memory Loss

OK, so this Washington Post article is credited on the front page of their website as by Robin Givhan, but when you click through, it says "staff writer," so who knows. But anyway, it's an article about how Elena Kagen dresses badly/blandly because she's in Washington and it's the tradition. But then comes this whopper:

The other men and women who have gone through this process have not been daring in their wardrobe choices either. There hasn't even been a pair of artful eyeglass frames in recent memory.

Robin! How could you forget:

(Reuters Photo, October 3, 2005)

Yes, that's a photo of Harriet Miers going through just that exact same process. And if that eyeliner doesn't compensate for "artful eyeglass frames," then I just shouldn't comment on fashion anymore.

OMG, I Know Who Can Replace Alberto Gonzales!

Also, I know this has been posted elsewhere, but I simply have to add to the chorus of approval for the sexiest protester of the year:

Who is he and where do we see nude photographs of find out more about him? Bad form wearing the hat inside, though.

UPDATE: His name is Adam Kokesh, he's with Iraq Vets Against the War, and there's another picture of him here.

Gosh, he's adorable!

UPDATE: They were a little slow, but Wonkette caught Adam Fever, too!

Update: Where's Condi Been? On the Radio! Also: the Iraq Thing? It's All Her Fault!

Last Tuesday, I wondered where Condi was amid all the election madness. I wasn't aware that the Secretary of State is supposed to be a non-partisan position, and they're not supposed to be involved in that kinda thing. Who knew? Well, it turns out that Our Favorite is a renegade, and she was all over conservative talk radio like a cheap suit, so no wonder I didn't notice:
Two weeks before crucial midterm elections that could tip the balance of power in Congress, Rice has been on a media blitz that appears aimed mainly at conservative media outlets, particularly radio talk shows. Secretary of state is traditionally a nonpartisan position, and Rice's media itinerary differs sharply from the practice of her predecessors during election campaigns, according to State Department records.

Rice has given nine interviews on radio, starting with three appearances on Oct. 24 during "Radio Day," when 42 radio hosts, most of them conservatives, were invited to the White House to spread the administration's message to President Bush's political base.
Clever girl! And although she avoided all of the (political) race baiting, her message was crystal clear: staythecoursestaythecoursestaythecourse. It's, like, totally her mantra.

And all the kids are talking about the new article in Vanity Fair, and it's a pretty messed-up read. You know how all of us thought it was Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld who pushed us into Iraq? Wrong:
Michael Ledeen, American Enterprise Institute freedom scholar: “Ask yourself who the most powerful people in the White House are. They are women who are in love with the president: Laura [Bush], Condi, Harriet Miers, and Karen Hughes.”
OMG, the chicks did it! Figures.

Metablogging: What If I Were a NY Daily News Business Reporter?

That's a great question! Well, let's see... I would interview CNBC business reporter Maria Bartiromo, because her hair is so awesome! And I would ask her about clothes 'n' stuff, and if she thinks her co-anchor is hot. Oh, and I would fully remember to ask her about savings and business and stuff, too. And I would have special pictures of her hair, and her hairdresser, too, like this:

And then I'd be all, like, Surprise! It's not me! It's real! It's a real interview in the NY Daily News!

UPDATE: OK, metablogging for reals, who comes out on top when you Google "History of Harriet Miers"? Not the Pink Pony! Alas, third place... but take that, NPR and Bloomberg! In your face!

Dear Bill O'Reilly...

Seriously, how cool would that be? I'm going to go stare in the mirror for a while and practice saying, "Why, yes, I'm on Bill O'Reilly's list of enemies, what of it?" But I can't decide whether to perform it in a hands-on-the-hips kinda way, or all giggly-like with a skip and a twirl. Wouldn't you like to be on Bill O'Reilly's list? Email him: oreilly@foxnews.com.

Also, have you heard the one about how Bush is all freaked out and will only talk to his wife, his mother, Harriet Miers and Condi? Whoah, doesn't that sound like fun? I was almost going to call him a "girly man", but then I glanced at my user picture and pseudonym and got all overwhelmed by the irony.

And, yes, Dick Cheney got amusingly heckled today. Again. Watch it here! I'm so happy that Dick is getting so much attention these days. He's so much more fun when his location is disclosed. Also, Cheney might even be more fun to Photoshop than Condi, so stay tuned...

UPDATE: I actually got several emails saying, "OMG, you're showing your real name!" Um... yeah... well, I always kinda figured everyone on the interweb knew how to use "who is" anyway. Plus, well, I work surrounded by armed guards all day long.

Forecast: Light Blogging Followed by Media Frenzy, Ugly Tour Bus Photoblogging

OK, OK! So anyway, sorry about the light posting, but it's been all Harriet Miers and all Plamegate all the time, and those are two stories I've pretty much ceded to the rest of the blogosphere.

But I did take a trip over to the courthouse today to shoot some pictures of the media frenzy, and I'll wander over later to take some more. Those will be posted later today, as well as the latest ugly tour bus.

In the meantime, please enjoy the Reuters photo, above, of Mr. Fitzgerald arriving at work this morning. And as an extra bonus go here to enjoy next week's withdrawn (for obvious reasons) Doonesbury strips.

BREAKING NEWS: Detroit Mayor to Remove Piece of Jewelry

OMG, OK, are you sitting down? You know, sometimes when people are cornered, they do craaaaazy things, and this is one of those horrible times, but we're just going to have to buckle up, reapply our hoof glitter, and somehow go on. I'm deeply rattled to have to report that according to the Associated Press, the rumors are true: Kwame Kilpatrick, the Mayor of Detroit, is going to remove his earring.

There, there, it's all right. I'm here for you. I've decided to use my Photoshop skills for good rather than... well, rather than on Harriet Miers. Below, please find a simulation of Mr. Kilpatrick without his earring. Please study this picture, and try, though I know it's painful and difficult, to adjust to this frightening new reality. I sincerely hope that this will help us all get through the coming weeks:

A History of Harriet Miers' Hairdo Part II: The College Years

That's Harriet, above, from the 1967 Southern Methodist University yearbook. It's the Summer of Love, but you wouldn't know it from her "Hairspray" era 'do. None of that hippie stuff for our gal! And here she is from 1970:

Ten years late, but whatta date!

Harriet and Scatology: Some Things Just Go Together

Here's a funny article from the Mississippi Sun Herald about the breathless, schoolgirl-like courtship (Get it? Courtship? LOL!) ritual between then-Governor George Bush and Harriet Miers. This excerpt made me think that maybe her blog is real, after all:
Indeed, Miers oozes with deference and awe in her letters to Bush. In a 1995 note, she thanked Bush for a visit and called a ride in a plane with him "Cool!" When she wrote Bush a thank-you note for meeting with a lottery job applicant in 1997, she wrote, "You are the best!"
But this cryptic message from GW to his adoring fan really ought to raise some eyebrows:
"I appreciate your friendship and candor. Never hold back your sage advice," he wrote. "P.S. No more public scatology." Whether Bush was referring to Miers' rough-and-tumble time as chairwoman of the Texas Lottery Commission or something else isn't clear. Scatology refers to "the study of or preoccupation with excrement or obscenity," according to Webster's dictionary.
OMG, things could get really interesting! "Oozing with deference" indeed!

And, yes, I've totally broken my promise about no more Miers posts. What can I say? She's a star!

Dick Tracy meets Mary Kay

Breaking my promise of no more Miers posts already? Well, Pony Pal™ Uncle Splatty sent me the above picture last night, so what am I supposed to do? Ignore it? I don't think so.

Over Her Head

That's whatshername (just kidding! I still love you, Condi, even if I'm a little displeased with your stale locks!) this morning, listening to her boss blab on and on and on. If anybody was surprised when Condi arrived in perfect, seamless Klingon makeup, they didn't say anything. Um, is that a washboard brow? Neato, Condi!

Also, what does a crazy lady look like? She looks like this:

And! OMG! I think people want the Pink Pony to make sport of Ms. Miers some more, but I'm sorry, my Pony Pals™, you're just going to have to get your Harrietproduct elsewhere (UPDATE: OK, I take it back. See above). There's plenty to spread around. Have you read her superfantastic blog, by the way? Some kids think I'm writing it, but all I can say to that is... as if!

Because YOU Demanded It! A History of Harriet Miers' Hairdo, 1983-Present

OK, OK! I surrender! I usually get all shy when a major story breaks in the blogs. Usually I'll just let John at Americablog post his 300 posts about Rovegate, for instance, and write about something else. Because, I mean, when you've got Atrios 'n' Kos 'n' this blogger and that blogger all over these stories like ducks on a junebug, why do I need to get involved? What am I going to add?

I guess I'm supposed to add mean remarks about hair, makeup and accessories, as several readers have reminded me via comments and email pleas. So although I might have gotten away with ignoring John Roberts, more or less, the same is not true of spunky Texan Harriet Miers. Pony Pals™ rose up with one voice and hollered, "Thou shalt comment upon her bad eyeliner! Thou shalt compare her to Amy Sedaris' Jerri Blank! Thou shalt seize upon those many baubles upon her unstylish sweater!" OK, so here we go. You asked for it:

1983: Gimme a G! Gimme a O! Gimme a P! Harriet's ready to pop with excitement in her kicky supermodel 'do. But, honey, that Frankenstein forehead you've got there was made for coverin'. (That's the kinda stuff you want from me, right?) This is obviously a post-law-school holdover. What do the hair-turbulent '80s have in store for Harriet?

1985: That's MS. Miers, Bub! Oh, what a letdown! Was this when she was saying gays were OK? Because that's kinda a Susan Sontag look. No, that's not it... what is this look? I like how her bangs crawl down that epic forehead like a wayward starfish. You decide:

1989: Disaster Strikes! Whoah, the '80s really end on a sour note for Miers' hair, and how about that double-breasted suit? Is she trying to look like a member of REO Speedwagon or something?

1992: Prelude to Dowdiness. Luckily, that horrific mullet has fallen down into something a little more normal, but pretty uninspired. It doesn't say "Judicial" to me at all. Also, please note that Harriet's liquid eyeliner problem hasn't surfaced yet:

1996: Tedium Sets In. As you can see, the above hairdo lasted for several boring years. Am I detecting some experimentation with color, though? In some photos, it looks a lot more auburn. But below, it's very mousy:

Here's another one from '96. Those wispy bangs and foot-tall forehead have been living in an increasingly uncomfortable symbiosis for some time, now, and it ain't pretty:

1998: Rich is In. OMG, here's where I comment on her ugly dress and bad accessorizing! Ha! IN YOUR FACE, missy! Gone are the wispy bangs. They are not terribly missed:

2001: The Bangs are Back! I wonder if the girl in the top picture ever thought she'd be dating guys like this:

2002: But You Can't Take the Texas Out of the Girl. This down-home look is obviously Harriet at her best. The Southern-style hairdo is clearly brand new, and the clothing and accessories are supremely tasteful. And grey? No way! She had good stylists for this shot (even if, tragically, they seem to have introduced her to her nemesis: eyeliner), but it seems like everything fell apart shortly thereafter:

2004: The Brick Wall is Hit. Off with all that pesky hair! In with those feeble bangs again! And, look! It's Condi! Do you remember that day when Condi was famously photographed looking all pissed off next to the American flag? I used that picture to make many a swell Photoshop. What a fun day that was! Oh, sorry, I got distracted.

Also 2004, the official flagshot. This is more-or-less how Harriet appears today. Note, of course, the full-blown eyeliner addiction. But there's still something wonderfully starfishy about those rascally bangs:

And today:

OMG! She's wearing too much jewelry!

There. Satisfied?
