Let's Eulogize Hugo Chavez

Think Progress has a post up about how Democrats shouldn't eulogize Hugo Chavez. Their reasons not to are good! However, there are some perfectly good reasons to do so. For instance:

1. He frequently used books as props:

2. He said of Sarah Palin, "The poor thing, you just feel sorry for her."

3. He managed to be interviewed by Naomi Campbell and didn't get a cell phone thrown at his head!

4. He was photographed on at least one occasion having an apparently spirited argument with an inanimate object (see above).

5. He called Condoleezza Rice "Missy."

6. He and Ahmadinejad kidnapped Condi's invisible friend!

7. Evidently foreshadowing/channeling Rupaul's Drag Race, he told Condi, "Don't mess with me, girl."

8. Pat Robertson issued a fatwa against him.

Not to mention my favorite:

In a memorable 2006 speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Chavez berated then-U.S. president George W. Bush, saying "The devil came here yesterday. And it smells of sulfur today."

I don't know; berating the Stanley Cup won't make you very popular here in Canada.

My, how the Stanley Cup has changed!

I'm not sure about #5. Points off for not using "Little Missy," but he probably wasn't all that familiar with our idioms.

Actually, his brand of socialism is way better than our Exxon profits-but-no-risk and wars-for-cheap-oil model.

I always buy gasoline at Citgo for my Zipcar.

Shut up, Anonymous. We're talking Hugo here.

I'm going to miss him, actually. Nutty tendencies aside, he sure has our number.

But I don't think we gave him cancer. Unless we gave it to Bob Marley, too.

Hmmm.
