It's Already Time For ANOTHER Callista Gingrich Roundup

(All photos AP Photo, 12-21-11, cropped details)

Callistamas celebrations continue! Enjoy it while you can. OK, so first it's the Washington Post, because Jennifer Rubin and Kathleen Parker writing about Callista wasn't enough, I guess. It's a good thing, though, because this time it's Amy Gardner, on the ground in Des Moines, and there are fun new Callista quotes and you will just love this article, I guarantee it. At one point she says that something "was totally Newt's idea," (a website called "Pets with Newt," I kid you not), calls campaigning "fun," and, best of all, describes the important job of designing Newt's Ugly Tour Bus:

It’s clear that Gingrich is taking the job seriously and even enjoying it, focusing on particular projects such as the videos and the design of the Gingriches’ new campaign bus with a zeal and attention to detail. Showing a reporter a photograph of the bus design, which features the slogan “Rebuilding the America We Love” and an enormous picture of her husband’s head, Gingrich said with a laugh, “There’s the Newtster!”

And it turns out that Callista's big project is about music education in schools, which I can't find anything snide or mean to say about, so yes, you go, Cally! This is actually the first article I've read about her which makes her seem fun and kind of airheaded, so these are promising developments.

I'm a little worried about the whole "Pets with Newt" thing, especially after reading this bit at Politico in which Maggie Haberman brings up the specter of the political use of puppies. Longtime readers of this blog know that I'm somewhat of a specialist in the treacheries and futility of using puppies as political props: it generally doesn't work, even when every bone in your body tells you it should. In fact, the Gingrich YouTube Christmas card includes a stuffed puppy! Tread carefully, Newt. Try kittens.

Elsewhere, the Telegraph meanly describes Newt 'n' Cally's video Christmas card as "sickly sweet," and Pony Pal™ Jim at Gawker explains accurately how all this "running for president" stuff is really just a front for Callista's video 'n' book home shopping network. And finally for today, NPR goes on and on about Newt's conversion to Catholicism and how it's all Callista's fault here.

Everybody hop on board the Callista train! Toot! Toot!

So much Callistaproduct! There is a Santa Claus!

I haven't dared watch the card yet. I'm curious, but a little scared.

Since Newt n' Cally wear their Catholicism on their sleeves, we wonder why, since Callista wed the Newtster when she was/is still fertile, there are no children. Do they not, um, do it? And if they do, do they use.... gah.... BIRTH CONTROL???? If so, does Pope Benny know about this???? Normally, we would consider such personal questions off-limits, but then the Gingriches have been SO, SO, SO UP FRONT about their allegiance to the Church of Rome. Sorry if we're shouting.

Just as the press didn't photograph FDR's wheelchair, they should refrain from profile shots of Callista out of respect for her as an institution. Don't shatter the sublime effect of her frontal shots with the shock of that massive beak seen from the side.

At least pictures of Cindy McCain didn’t burn my eyes as the super scary photos of Callista. She looks like she will turn the White House into a BDSM palace...

Do you know who else is big on Music Education? Hugo Chavez! Look up “El Sistema” and Venezuela (well okay, it wasn’t his idea, but the program is so popular, even Chavez is for it. The conductor for the LA Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel is a big proponent of the “El Sistema” idea. Thieves are as well, because they like to steal the metal instrument to melt them down.. for cash, like Callista..

I love this:

“When I was a child I had a cocker spaniel and Doberman pincher and German Sheppard. But we have not yet had a family conference on this topic,”

So they managed to whip up a whole Pets strategy and webpage, but haven't yet talked to each other about actually getting a pet?

And it's just too, too fun that Newtie had a cocker spaniel. I'm thinking it was probably named Checkers.

I'm all for music education in schools, but the Post quotes Cally as saying: “It’s important to keep music education in the schools as a means of keeping our cultural identity,”

Music education as a means of keeping our cultural identity? What exactly does that mean? I'd like to see her playlist.

As someone married to a music education, I am appalled. That's a horrible approach to music education!

OK, sorry to go all serious on this blog, but - really!

I'm going to have nightmares for a week from gazing too long at the first Callista pic in this entry.

"Tread carefully, Newt. Try kittens."
He can't. Dick Cheney already ate them all.

xenides, that photo's kind of creepy - Callista looks about 14. So is that what she looked like when their relationship...ah...began? He hit on a woman who looked like a 14 year old?

Esquire magazine (the April 1995 issue, page 71) once reported that Gigrich told a friend that among the reasons he divorced his first wife was, "She's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a president. And besides, she has cancer."

Aunt Snow, I know nothing about that photo except that URL - but creeepy! She does look very very young. As to whether that is what grinds Newt's mill, it would be irresponsible to speculate...so feel free.

You mention Kathleen Parker. That woman is a lookalike to Callista. No, she doesn't have platinum hair in a $1000 do, but she puts on airs all the same. Worse, she wrote an editorial claiming secularism is a religion and that Obama violated the First Amendment in the contraception controversy because he showed his establishment of secularism. No kidding, secularism = religion. This woman hasn't a CLUE.
