I'm going to do a Jennifer Rubin! No no, I'm not going to talk incessantly about Israel and Iran, don't worry. I'm going to do the thing where I start each point with the same phrase, like a hack, like Jen does with her morning link roundups! Here goes...
In case you were wondering where I've been, I celebrated a nice long Labor Day weekend by coming down with a terrible cold from which I'm still recovering. Fun!
In case you were wondering about what's at the top of the frame of the adorable White House photo above, showing Barrack 'n' kids enjoying Michelle's convention speech, I can help! It's Susan Rothenberg's great 1976 painting Butterfly, on loan to the Obamas by the National Gallery of Art. Here's a better look:
In case you were wondering: I thought Michelle's dress was superb! And the speech was good, too!

I wonder no more, thank you! (feel better)
Butterfly, SO much better than "Rafalca." Or whatever the heck its name was.
And yes, the dress, like the First Lady, killed.
Michelle Obama-2012!!!
Simply stunning.
Looks like an X through a horse, not a butterfly.
I'm heading to DC to steal Michelle from Barack. Sorry Mr. President, I apologize in advance.
I know that the President needs some TLC...but he will survive.
Scoped the wire services photos earlier today.
What a gorgeous woman! Those legs! Oh My!
I love how confident and happy the president looks, and how happy the girls look. It's sweet.
Matty Boy, that's what I thought as well. I decided the horse is named 'Butterfly'. If it isn't, it is now.
I had been hoping that pic wasn't taken in the White House, maybe some Days Inn in Charlotte.
That awful couch! Do they actually allow such ugly couches in the WH? Gaah! Straight people should NOT be allowed to decorate.
The oldest daughter (Sasha? Malia?) is now reportedly 6'9" and still growing.
That kid is a knockout.
I can definitely see her walking a runway in the not-so-distant future.
Alas, the little one is still afflicted with early teen ugly duckling syndrome, but she seems absolutely charming and I have a hunch she'll turn out just as pretty as the older one.
The painting and the couch are competing for the hideosity crown.
The painting has the edge, IMO.
