Gingrich/Palin Rivalry is Both Delightful and Stupid

Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich delivers the main address at the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner in Stamford, Conn., Thursday, June 4, 2009. So you thought the big GOP rivalry was Steele versus Limbaugh? Or Cheney versus Powell? Or Kathleen Parker versus Everybody Else? No, it's so much better: Newt versus Sarah!

You just have to enjoy this hilarious article at Politico about, seriously, a benefit dinner tonight and how much clothes-rending and cries of "Calgon, take me away!" it is causing. You're going to have to read between the lines, because this is Politico, after all, but once you figure out what's going on, you'll laugh and laugh. Some observations:

  • How do you solve a problem like Sarah? You can't. She has become the albatrossiest albatross in the history of the Republican Party.
  • This isn't really Newt vs. Sarah. This is Washington vs. Sarah.
  • It is the job of Sarah's Washington and Alaska staffs to coordinate together to make everything impossible.
  • Newt Gingrich thinks this is his big comeback.
  • Pete Sessions is a vindictive hostess.
  • New GOP slogan: "We're stuck to the base and can't get up!"

The slogan is priceless, Princess, the perfect last bullet point.

I love how the GOP has yet to figure out that Palin has borderline personality disorder. She charms people and draws them in, close enough for them to want to strangle her.
God, I hope she gets the GOP nomination for president in 2012.
Just imagine her debating Obama.
And what's with that photo of Newt? Looks like he's taking female hormones.

And I just heard that she and Giuliani were at a Yankee game together. Dream team?

Just who is "the broad middle of the country?"? Not enough of those yokels voted for McCain/Failin', so why appeal to them again? I think the GOPpers just need to suck it up and start mailing to the KKK and other crazies. THEY'RE the only base the GOP can count on these days.

Heehee, I can just hear Newt now, "God, that Palin woman won't fucking shut up! She reminds me of my first, no, second, no, third wife, goddammit!"

The word now is that she's attending, not speaking. Sheesh. I never thought I'd feel sorry for Republicans, but as former meeting and event planner I sure have sympathy for theirs.

It looks like Newtie is saying "Who? Me? Wha?" I expect he'd wear that expression every day of a Gingrich Presidency

If Sarah Palin runs in 2012 I'll volunteer to hand out swag on the streets for her. I'll man the phones and get into ridiculous arguments with people who are trying to enjoy their dinner. I'll make anti-Newt bumperstickers "Paid For Somone Other Than The Campaign To Re-Elect (sic!) Sarah Palin" accusing him of bestiality. I want to show Rush Limbaugh how Operation Chaos is supposed to be done.
