Cindy McCain Wardrobe Update

Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, appears on stage during a walk through of the Xcel Center where her husband will give his acceptance speech later during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)

What's Cindy wearing today?* Now, before you get too harsh**, let's remember that this is her day-wear, and she will certainly change into something more fabulous this evening. But that said, I'm really not very impressed with this outfit. It almost seems like the McCain campaign suddenly became aware of how ridiculously rich Cindy always looks and asked her to scale it back a few decades. Is she trying to look like a 1950s sitcom wife here? Are they going to try to remake her as Audrey Meadows or something?

Maybe they were embarrassed by Vanity Fair, who just tallied up the cost of her sensational Hurricane speech ensemble and found that it probably cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $300,000 (!). But that tally is totally cheating because 90% of it is just the earrings(!!). No fair counting diamonds, guys! Also: what's a rich lady to do? Look frumpy? Please! She looks too fabulous? This is criticism?

Cindy never looks frumpy and she never has, as the LA Times thoughtfully reminded us today in a superb retrospective of Cindy's fab fashions. Seriously, this is just about the greatest thing I've seen in the Times in years. Best line: "She should wear floral-print, turquoise silk chiffon more often." Honey, we should ALL wear floral-print, turquoise silk chiffon more often.

*Gosh, what did I write about before getting so bedazzled with Lady Penelope? Wasn't there some other weird lady I used to write about? I can't seem to remember.

**Please remember: no excessively mean comments about Our Lady are permitted on this blog! This is a real rule!

OK, so I don't want to be mean, but pul-eeeze... can we get some kind of matching cast covers that coordinate with the fabby outfits?

That weird lady you used to write about is on the cover of Forbes magazine today.

And the Forbes say she is "making the best of a bad hand".

Maybe the shawl's crochet pattern will be listed on McCain's website next to Cindy's family recipes? Oh hope.

That crocheted shrug she has on makes her look like Spring Byington-meets-Grannie-Clampett.
Has anyone noticed that she toggles between looking like a hot MILF and an old crow who smells like Vicks VapoRub?
I bet she has a little wad of Kleenex in her pocket with this outfit.

P.S.
I have decided there's absolutely nothing wrong with her hand--she just got tired of shaking hands with overzealous oafs.

A three day retrospective.

"Girlie Chat" on Tuesday: Totally hawt chick.

The orange thing yesterday: Hawt chick's still good looking mom.

Today: Grandma of hawt chick. More dry than hot.

You are all bordering on irreverent, but I'll accept all of the above as valid criticisms. We all want Cindy to be MORE fabulous, not less fabulous.

Us - your minions, bordering on irreverent?

We never had to deal with Condi being more fabulous, so please... allow us to adjust!

I think her style has definitely improved. She's showing off her legs more, which is a plus. And her hair is looking lots better these days. But she is looking kind of reptilian facially... She needs a spa day very badly!!!

Geez, what struck me about the retrospect slide show is that she used to look pretty and relaxed, and now she looks drawn and haggard like a witch. Fashion choices aside - her face and expression have changed for the worse.

Could it have something to do with her stroke?

Oh dear... Are we sure this isn't Cindy's grandma? Or Eva Gabor on the set of Green Acres?

Since this blog is the nexus of politics and fashion, I completely understand how Lady Penelope is like the coming of the Messiah for you, Princess.

Forgive me for being selfish, but I fervently hope you have something else to write about in 60 days or so.

It’s hard to paint the other guy as an elitist when your wife wears an outfit that cost more than most houses.
