Red Taffeta Monster Nearly Devours Princess Condi!

Actor and Kennedy Center 2005 Honoree Robert Redford (R) chats with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as they depart the gala dinner at the State Department in Washington December 3, 2005. (Mike Theiler/Reuters)
Unfortunately, the above is the only photo I can find of our heroine last night (I think that Reuters caption has the date wrong) as she entertained Robert Redford at her pre-Kennedy Center Honors gala at the State Department, so important questions about that dress remain unanswered. Was it really as unflattering as it seems? Was Condi the first US Secretary of State to attend a function sleeveless? When they headed outside, did she have a little fur wrap, as the dress practically demands?

These are nagging questions on the eve of her trip to Europe, where she's going to tell the Europeans that what the United States does in Europe is none of Europe's business, and Europe should just BACK OFF, OK?

I wonder if they'll send Karen Hughes over next week for the mop-up?

EDIT: More pics!

Oh.... no, Condi, no.

No no no no no.

UPDATE: Here's a long article in today's New York Times about the Condibot, and it explains why she keeps getting greeted at airports by such unlikely types as falconers and Sumo wrestlers. I was wondering about that.

UPDATE 2: According to the Washington Post, the dress is an Oscar de la Renta.

UPDATE 3: Kid Rock was at Condi's reception, according to the NY Times.

I have rarely had to update a post so much! Are we all settled down now?

Wow. I've never seen a red taffeta dress so evocative of demin overalls.

Good lord. That dress is three sizes too big for her. Condi and Redford could fit inside it!

I think she's taking posture and posing tips from the young lady to her left (in the scrunchy photo). Poor Condi.

maybe she's off her oats.

she also has that big-head syndrome that nancy reagan made famous (robt redford has it too). it's the condition where the head is way bigger proportionally than the too skinny body.

Whats with her hair. honestly. If you know you have a big deal "gala" dont you have something done with it? Who does her hair because it looks like she does it and quite frankly, it aint working out.

That dress is pretty unbelievable. The bottom of it just poofs out suddenly and in this picture where she's hoisting it up she looks a bit like a lighweight boxer with her muscles bulging. Dont get me wrong- I think its great she's in good shape but that whole outfit with the sleevless dress etc. just lookes awkward.

You hit the nail right on the head, Stacy! It's not that Condi has a bad figure, and she isn't overly skinny; she's a perfect size 6. But her arms are exactly like mine, skinny but bandy, and that's why you don't see me wearing sleeveless things.

And, otherwise, yes, the dress simply doesn't fit. And here's why: Condi, like her boss, is living in a bubble filled with synchofants (spelling?) where nobody has the nerve to tell her that sometims her choices are wrong.

Sometimes a tailor should just say No, no, not for you! Your pathetic shoulders just make that dress look like a used taffeta tampon.

Sure it's a bad look, but is it really torture?
