Everybody is pointing and laughing at the fantastic new photo of Al Pacino as Phil Spector today. And well they should! Is it possible to make a Phil Spector biopic without ludicrous hairdos? Of course not; why would you want to?
And, indeed, Pacino's coiffure is insane, ridiculous. But I'm sorry to say that it's also extremely inaccurate. Couldn't HBO, of all people, do a better job? Take a look at the real (I use that term loosely) thing:
(AP Photo, 2005)
Pacino's Spector-do is like a giant frizzy afro, while Spector's majestic wigsplosion is... a miracle of snaky teased waves. It's almost perfectly spherical, whereas the Pacino version is much more vertically oriented.
Whatever happened to bouffant accountability?
Great attention to wardrobe detail, though.
But still, OMG, this is going to be the best TV movie since the good-for-all-the-wrong-reasons Game Change.

thank you! I am glad someone has finally had the courage to point out that the emperor of Pacino's wig has no clothes!
Pacino is hired for star power of course, but his look and demeanor are all wrong for Spector. If Max Wright from Alf is still relatvely thin, he'd be a great choice.
Then he calmed it down into a sort of lesbian cap. It was quite a 'do trial.
Wonder how he wears it in the slammer...
LMAO at "a sort of lesbian cap."
Hairpieces aren't generally allowed in prison.
You got it, Brother Petey.
Pacino's is Wacky Fro Wig just plopped atop the head of someone who doesn't usually care about their 'do.
Now, Spector! That's a Fright Wig worn by someone who cares.
Helen Mirren! Woah, but that's somethin'.
Wow, I have to second Matthew H's reccommendation for Max Wright. That's an inspired choice.
I'm looking at Phil Spector here and I now can't stop seeing Max Wright in such be-wigged splendor.
Pacino:
Due to my age, one of the great actors of all time.
Had he worn a wig approximate to Spector's he would be ridiculed for going over the top.
God love you Al.
