Fashion Victim: Give Me This Coat!

(Still photo of Jamie Foxx from Django Unchained)

I'm not much of a fan of Quentin Tarantino, but the stills I've seen from his next movie so far look more like a fashion spread than a motion picture... and a good one, too!

I wonder if the slave-turned-bounty-hunter's clothes look so fabulous and brand-new all the way through the film? What happens to the jacket? Does it survive to the end? Was the machine-knit scarf sent back through time to the 19th century by helpful stylists from the future?

Shoot, now I'll have to see it. What's it called again? Django Untucked?

EDIT: I just noticed on IMDB that the costume designer also created the ridiculously phony wardrobe for The Help. Good stuff!

From pictures we have seen before, that color and cut would look fabulous on you, and the buttons are intriguing.

I'm generally opposed to toggle buttons, but they're usually on double-breasted coats, which I never wear. They look great here.

Damn, I really want that great jacket!

I didn't know that gun fighters favored green velvet. It doesn't seem like a practical fabric for the frontier.

The coat would look great on you Pete. I bet you it will be in stores shortly after the release of the film.

I don't think it's velvet. It looks like cotton with a small weave. I bet it's really soft. Mmmmm...

gee I thought it was a page from the new Anthropologie catalog, going in a more "edgy" direction

That coat is awesome. Slim hipped swagger-a-licious.

On a white guy, I think that jacket could be a great part of most any outfit. For a black guy, I think you'd need -- at a minimum -- the hat and the gun for it to work.

Umm actually I would lean towards that scarf being handknit from what we see in this still--however in my professional opinion as a person who knows about clothes, everything else is totally anachronistic, down to the yarn used for the scarf. But I don't think it was machine knit.

What's up with the waist and crotch of the pants? Folded, paper bag style?

I'm with undeadgoat. As a knitter, I could knit that. A machine could as well, and maybe wardrobe stretched it so that it would curl just slightly as if a knitter had cast off just a little too tightly. Otherwise, WOW. You would look so awesome in the whole ensemble... well maybe not the hat. I don't think you could pull off the hat.

I will defer to your knitting expertise.

I want a girl version of that jacket, NOW!

That is definitely a good-looking outfit, but I am absolutely flabbergasted that it is supposed to be a 19th century costume.
