"Kent" Conrad To Retire

So Gaylord "Kent" Conrad is going to retire. He's kinda been a shit lately, so whatever, good. Still, though, I'll always have a soft spot for Mr. Conrad for being the only person on The Hill to ever have his communications director respond in an official manner to a ridiculous, immature Princess Sparkle Pony post. Happy trails, Gaylord*!

*I'm sorry, I know it's immature, but it's still funny. It's 2011 and that name will always be funny.

Gaylord! "snicker"

I wonder what the origin of that name is.

There's a funny bit in John Waters' autobio Shock Values when John & others are arrested for filming a nude hitchhiker in parkland (as I recall it).

One of the court officials refers to David Lochary (Raymond Marble in Pink Flamingos) as David "Gaylord" Lochary, which is really funny, but pissed him off no end.

And so...

Oh my (Gay)Lord!! Haw!

That most excellent linkage brought me back to a post that predates my own climbing aboard the frolicking pink pony, so I got a most enormous laugh out of it. Wow, a sob story AND an explanation. You got your money's worth!

Also Gaylord Hotels, swanky-ish conference and resort facilities conveniently located in some of the Gaylordyist places in the US of A! Dallas, Orlando, Nashville (most Nudie suits per capita in all of Christendom!), and of course Swishington, DC.

From Wikitionary:
"Derived from the Old French surname Gaillard, brought to England by the Normans. Shaped by folk etymology like gay (“joyful”) + lord.

"Usage notes: The given name had some vogue in the 20th century, but has rarely been given after the 1960s because of the modern meaning of gay."
