KaCHING!

You'll be thrilled to learn that Random House/Crown has rewarded America's Princess Diplomat with a $2.5 million (at least!) contract for three books. There will be a memoir about her Bush years, a book about her family, and a Readers' Digest condensed version of the latter for the kiddies. The Associated Press reports:

"Rice will combine candid narrative and acute analysis to tell the story of her time in the White House and as America's top diplomat, and her role in protecting American security and shaping foreign policy during the extraordinary period from 2001-2009," according to a statement issued Sunday by Crown, a division of Random House Inc. Crown also published then-Sen. Barack Obama's "The Audacity of Hope."

Protecting America's security? I must have missed that part. But yay for Condi! Think of all the shoes! Think of all the promotional appearances!

UPDATE: The teaser in the print edition of the Washington Post is headlined "Tell All?" Oh, please, c'mon... you know better than that, Posties.

Candid narrative? Acute analysis? Protecting security?

So this is fiction?

I guess that Watergate apartment will remain affordable for her should she want to keep it along with endless Ferragamo's.

Will she be doing book signings at Borders 'n stuff? I see photos of just her feet and shoes under the table in the future.

Just a typo or two! The original was, "Rice will combine candied narrative and a cute analysis of her time in the White House..."

Makes much more sense.

Good ones, LuLu.

With any luck, she'll be applying for a job as a greeter just like her ex-husband.

Seriously, do they really expect people to buy these books? The condiographies were so boring because the subject is boring. Now, the boring subject is writing about her boring self. Hmmm.

I couldn't even get all the way through Bumiller's Condiography. So, so boring.

I can't imagine Random House's thinking here. Who will buy? There are surely not $2.5 million (at least!) worth of readers out there clamoring for this.

It must be a bargaining chip for something else. Someone(s) else. No? Or, maybe they expect a huge buy from the Heritage Foundation? Or some such.

Ugh. Candied & cute says it all.

Looking around online, publishers are showing no interest in a book from Condi's boss, and Scribner would not release the numbers for Laura Bush's deal.

Obviously, Condi wants to know that she will GIT PAID!!!! Much more bling-centric.

The usual right-wing types will make the normal bulk purchases to make sure her book is a "best seller." Far more copies will be sold than read. Unless she really IS candid, which I figure is as likely as me winning the 100 meter dash in the Olympics.

Dubya will ghost-write it for her to make it literate & exciting ... can't wait for the torrid sex scenes.

Hmm. Hillary Clinton received an unprecedented $8 mill advance for her memoirs of life in the WH. That's OK, not a peep, but it's wrong for Condoleeza Rice to receive $5 million less. I'm trying to understand the rationale of the contributors and have concluded that hate and pettiness still reign supreme among this unfortunately woeful bunch. Hope y'all are not FSO's who represent our country or we're really in bad shape.
