Step Away from the Photoshop

Lots of people have written about the new ghastly calendar which features conservative gals swathed glamorously in fur. Mostly people have featured Anne Coulter and Michelle Malkin in their commentaries, because, you know, ew.

Well, finally, ABC News put the whole thing on their photo page so that we can cringe at the entire rogues gallery of shrill commentators, lobbyists, ideologues and oil industry shills. And what a nightmare it is! One thing I noticed is that most of the shots are sweetened up with Photoshop used by a very heavy hand. Features are smoothed over and generalized to the point of looking totally unreal. My favorite is the shot above. That's plucky Sandy Liddy (as in G. Gordon's daughter) Bourne, one of the most egregious global-warming deniers/oil industry cheerleaders. She's been transformed into some kind of other-worldly, Kabuki-masked beauty school demonstration mannequin. You don't really need a "normal" picture of Bourne to see that this is a bona fide Photoshop disaster, but here's one anyway, so that you can see just how drastic the retoucher's chore really was:

You're welcome. [UPDATE: Link fixed]

I just assumed she looks inhuman because she is inhuman.

The link isn't working for me.

My retinas will never be the same.

But, then again, they saved some bread by leaving their hands untouched. This lady's paws aren't awful, but check out the claws on the other dames in the coven.

Mein Gott!

What the heck is Clare Booth Luce doing in there? I didn't realize she was a right-wing shill...

Luce was an old school Repoublican, who probably wouldn't allow most of these chicks to shine her shoes.

I kind of like the Luce connection here; as a group, these snaps look like the lobby cards for a community-theatre production of "The Women." Sandy Liddy would clearly have to be the hapless Edith Potter.

Is it just me, or do they all look like Log Cabin drag queens?

Wow. That's a lot of sheared beaver.

This calendar is a fap-fest for Lileks.

Goodbye, nightmare-free sleep.

Query this: typo, or Freudian slip?

A regular on the Fox News Channel's O'Reilly Factor, Mary Katharine Ham is the online editor of The Washington Examiner. Formerly the managing editor of Townhall.com, O'Reilly is wearing a green three-quarter length sheared mink coat with laser grooving from Miller's Furs.

Irony Alert:

ABC's website is running the slide show above an ad for the Salvation Army (images of homeless people, and the tag lines, "Your donations change lives/When you put money in our kettle, expect change").

I thought it was a picture of the odious George W. Bush, force feminizied by Photoshop!

A side note: the historical Claire Booth Luce actually was a right-wing activist

Retouching a huge dose of Merle Norman, too.

Ugh! What a horrible assortment - and ugly coats to boot. It reminds me of the wearers of the 1968 GOP convention buttons "We love lettuce" (at the height of the farmworkers boycott).

Re the inclusion of Luce, yes she was an isolationist and "staunch" anti-communist and her politics were influenced by her RC faith, but what was right wing then can in no way be compared to what it looks like now - there is no way she would have considered herself a peer of the motley group pictured here - most of whom have no claim to fame other than being bloggers or self made, self- appointed spokespersons for today's right wing. Luce had a history of service and activism - whether one agreed with her politics or not - that had little or nothing to do with the type of self promotion most of these ladies exhibit.

I honestly thought this was a photo from 1956 that had been dug up since there was such a dearth of attractive Repooblican ladiez. Weird.

Well, we can see why the 2008 election didn't turn out so well.

No ideas since 1954.

p.s. Quite a gallery, culminating with Clare Booth Luce, whose mink coat looks like a good Republican cloth coat after all those dead animals.

Ugh. Photoshop can only go so far.
Bow wow wow.

Heavens to Betsy! What a parade, and in those dead animal coats too as if the point that they were selfish, evil, and inhumane idiots wasn't clear enough. It's like the Nazi Follies calendar of 1936 (Miss July: Herman Goering!)

Is Sandy wearing the hair of the young Julie Andrews?

It's not just you. I was waiting for the Tranny Surprise banner ad to show up.

True Fact: Clare Boothe Luce's single mother was a high-end call girl who eventually settled for a Jewish sugar daddy whom she refused to marry because he was, you know, Jewish, and that just wouldn't do. She also told her daughter that her goal in life was "large pearls and small hips." Great role model, you betcha.

Gordon Liddy's swinging daughter's true whorishness comes out in this photo!
