We Have a Winner in the "Most Irrelevant" Category

Kazuo Kawasaki, the Japanese designer for Sarah Palin's glasses, shows one of his lightest models at a Tokyo store for Matsunaga Optical Manufacturing Co. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Kawasaki is grateful to the Republican vice presidential candidate for making his product famous although he acknowledged he also likes Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama. Tsk, I thought I had this award locked up. Hey, my stated purpose is to be shallow and irrelevant; what's everybody else's excuse? So far we've had Sarah Palin stories focusing on lipstick and moose hunting, and I've covered the important topics of shoes, hairdo, etc. Now, thank goodness, the Associated Press thought to cover the eyewear angle. It turns out that the Japanese guy who designed her glasses thinks she's pretty! And he's grateful for the publicity! But he kinda likes Obama!

And onward we march to election day, better informed than ever.

Shallow and irrelevant?

It is not like you are Scullerymaid Dull Horsey... Oh dear, never.

I am a little worried here however... I mean Sarah is so not-elitist. I wonder what is up then with the $400 eyewear.

$400 eyewear, $300 shoes... all mediocre but not exactly the goods of the populists she so claims to be a part of.

And that red flocked wall papier in the office, mon dieu!

This really throws my Walmart optician idea, which is pure populism - right off the rails.

Tsk tsk indeed.
(hah- the story about the eyewear is now airing on NPR's marketplace.)

Palin sure is fancy for a small town girl.

It's the difference between high art and folk art, Princess. Your shallowness and irrelevancy are practiced and nuanced. When the mainstream media does it, they are so natural and full of energy, it makes elitist bastids such as your loyal readers ponder the very meaning of art.

So now Caribou Barbie has a NEW story about that magical day that John McCain asked for her hand in holy candidacy.

Remember she told CHAR-lie that when he asked her she said “Yes” right away, without blinking.

Now on the Hannity interview she tells a touching story of having her kids vote on the question. And they were all like “Go fer it, Mom!”

Of course, vaguely I recall the story around the time of the Convention that the kids didn’t even know she was doing this, they were told that they were going to St. Paul to celebrate some family anniversary….

How many lies does this woman tell? These are lies she doesn’t even HAVE to tell!

It reminds me of some psychotic cheerleader in high school telling lies to the girls in the cafeteria about her “older college boyfriend.”

listening to the palin-ator I suddenly recognized that her vacuous speeches, read from teleprompters with verve but no depth, are nothing more than beauty pageant formulations.

Japanese-designed spectacles?

That's foreign policy experience!!!!

Hmm, I don't know, matty boy. The last time I went to a self-proclaimed "folk art" exhibit, it was to see Henry Darger's work. Little girls with penises at war with each other.

On the other hand, that does sound like the kind of thing that would get the GOP really hot. Carry on.

Oooh, Henry Darger. Great stuff.

Dear Princess Sparkle Pony,
A friend led me your way today.
Thank you for providing me a bit of comic relief. I needed it.

Your photo is stunning!

my glasses are better than her glasses, but I do feel smarter now that I know about the guy from that other country that makes glasses and stuff is happy to be famous and that he likes her opponent. I can go one with the rest of my day, knowing I learned valuable information!

I'm straight, English, 54, totally out of any loop you can spin on your finger, and I think your blog is the funniest thing I've ever seen. I'm not sure I understand some of it, but I laugh like a retard anyway.

Thank you.

I had been thinking about getting rimless frames a while back, but am now afraid to do so.

Also, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thought the jacket Sarah wore to her Golden, CO rally on 9/15 made her look like she was being followed by a set of Venetian blinds.

re: Walmart angle - one consequence should be chinese knock-offs of these glasses in Walmart for $39
