Torture? Condi Said YES

AP Photo, February 2005

You know, every once in a while, I think that maybe I'm too mean, on too personal a level, to America's Princess Diplomat.

And then I find out that not only did Condi give the go-ahead for "enhanced interrogation techniques", she chaired the meetings in which they were approved! And she knew full well it was illegal!

And then all my guilty feelings evaporate.

As you know, as you give us the forum for it, humor and politics- especially l'condel style is something we all enjoy.

Today I have not one ounce of humor in me as I visit this blog. (OK, this photo did make one small corner of my lip turn upward in a semi smile.)

Deep sigh. I really want to weep. What have we become?

Please do not answer that; I think we all know.

I'm with Fran on this one. Right now, I'm at the beginning of The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, where she discusses the people who were experimented upon at McGill University in the 1950's, under the watchful eye of the CIA and others. When it was uncovered, it was presented as a failed attempt to discover effective means of brainwashing. It was in fact a successful attempt to find improved methods of torture.

The funny escapes me as well.

Dear PSP,

You mean? It's your monstrous, immoral, laughable subject that's "mean."

Indeed, more than mean: arriviste, vulgar, self-righteous, vindictive, phony ...

In other words, all the right qualifications for the "vice" presidency, whose high standards hae been upgraded by Dick Cheney.

Lovely. Maybe one day you'll be able to post pictures of her at the Hauge. Wearing stripes.

I agree with everybody's comments.

PSP, I am a heterosexual black woman, who is registered as a Democrat, but who votes as if I am a conservative Republican. In my opinion, I think your blog raises consciousness about Dr. Rice's sycophancy and her unwise decision-making and judgement under George W. Bush.

I know that some African American blogs, in particular Black women, have slammed you for this blog. I disagree. Besides, I believe wholeheartedly in free speech, even when people disagree--a central tenet of diplomacy and democracy

Like these Black women, I admire and respect Dr. Rice's personal accomplishments. She, however, has been willingly, or perhaps, unwillingly blindsighted by the Bush Administration.

For her sake, I hope she leaves public life for a respite to reclaim her dignity, self-respect, and senses. Dr. Rice is too intelligent of a woman to have been exploited (coerced or not coerced) during these 8 years.

With time, I am confident that she will rediscover her three best friends: self-respect, dignity, and honor.

We love you Dr. Rice. We know you can do it, especially given all of that self-discipline. Come on home, my sister.

Anonymous, I appreciate your comment. I know exactly which blog you're talking about which recently called this site, and especially its commenters, racist. This post, in fact, was partly in response to that.

But! As far as I know, it's only that one blog which has made such accusations.

Keep doing what you do, please. I'm a long time reader (also a black female) who looks forward to reading this blog everyday. I know I'm guaranteed at least one laugh daily.

I wasn't aware there were complaints about Princess Sparkle Pony but maybe that's because most black women that I know are conflicted about the good doctor. See the first chapter in Marcus Mabry's book where he recalls the uproar over senior editors' plans to put Condi on the cover of Essence magazine as exhibit 1.

Sieg Heil!

As for anonymous, I am a white gay woman and I am blacker than Condi, gayer than you, but not as gay as Condi, who actually bought a house with her female partner Randy Bean.
People of color who consider barbs aimed toward Condi to be racist are deluding themselves that a woman who loves a white woman and works in a white male world is anything but a classic Oreo.

Where IS Lecondel, that she can be wearing her dominatrix outfit with Bleach-Boy in the background? She gives "jack-booted thug" a whole new meaning.

Condi is flat-out evil, and the latest revelations about chairing the torture meetings simply provide more proof. That has absolutely nothing to do with her race.

You might as well call somebody homophobic who criticizes the legacy of the psychopathic hairdresser who ran the FBI for decades. It just doesn't fly.

the presence of Bleach-Boy would seem to place this photo in Germany. is Condi sporting the new SS uniform for a new millenium?

That's the famous "black boots" picture Robin Givhan used in her article about Condi's... um, black bloots. It was taken in Frankfurt.

Not to interrupt the pile-on of Condi-hate (I'm all in favor), but anon 9:10 - 'arriviste' ? Relevance? Qualification as a genuine criticism in any circumstances? Let's not water down the rest of your all-too-justified list!

Sparkle, whatever your name is.

The reason why you haven't heard comments from other African American Women based sites, is because you are barely known. Don't kid yourself honey, most of the comments are not about Dr. Rice's policies, ethics, etc. It is about her appearance, just a wack platform for racist, pseudo feminists to blast a woman of color. You're not really concerned about what she is or isn't doing to better this world.

Anonymous, I can understand your feelings about this blog but I disagree with you. I'm a woman, not of color, but a lesbian, which means that I, unfortunately, have something in common with Condi Rice. Although Ms. Rice may have had a good education, although she may have musical and athletic talent, the sad fact is she is an integral part of the most corrupt and destructive regime this country has ever seen. She was not effective in her security job but as we've seen before, Bush rewards incompetence with promotions. Now, as Bush's Secretary of State, she travels around promoting the warped agenda of a xenophobic sociopath.

All this is to say, I'm sorry but she is fair game. The joking about her hairdo and shoes may seem unfair to you, but in my opinion she is as deserving of ridicule as Larry Craig or any other Republican closet case. It's fun and it makes this administration somehow a little less depressing.
