Ursula Starts the Week the Ruffled Way

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, right, stands with Austrian counterpart Ursula Plassnik, left, and Dutch counterpart Maxime Verhagen, center, during a meeting of EU foreign ministers at the EU Council building in Brussels, Monday March 5, 2007. EU foreign ministers met Monday for talks focusing on Palestinian efforts to establish a unity government, following the failure of the latest round of negotiations between rivals Fatah and Hamas. No scarf, but what a wonderful outfit! Of course it may not be ruffles; it may be that Ursula has at last consented to allow Mr. Stenmeier to elaborately cover her with Reddi-whip. Either way, what a great start for a new week!

Ursula as a confection! Ursula as dessert! I'm gaining weight just thinking about it!

And let's give a special PSP hello to AP shutterbug Virginia Mayo, who left a long and successful career in front of the camera to start taking pictures of her own. Heck, she was so committed to this new career, she came back from the dead to do it!

Next to last comment: the handbag. I love Ursula, but the handbags have to go.

Last comment: That ring! It has to have some super Amazon powers, like calling the invisible plane.

It is very Seinfeld-puffy-pirate-shirt meets uber-diplo-diva on her.
Loving the look.

Hot damn!

You can tell she doesn't have to take notes at her meetings.

Speaking of gaining weight, Ursula looks as if she's swelling. Perhaps she has ingested a foreign minister or two lately.

Ahhh! In Austria it's Ofenwarmer Apfel Strudel mit Vanille Sosse!!!!

Yum Yum

But the question could be, since she is swelling: Is Ursula a man? (pity if she were)...

No, silly. She's a bear. A very beautiful bear.

One can almost hear the surprisingly feminine giggle escaping Ms. Plassnik.

A sort of 78 "tee-hee" played at 45.

This raises a burning question: La Ursula's voice. What could match the majesty of her demeanour? Personally, I'm hoping for a kind of throaty Teutonic mezzo, something along the lines of Marlene Dietrich-meets-Elizabeth Schwarzkopf in a dark alley. Or Lauren Bacall with a Viennese accent and (even more) attitude.
