She Enjoys Being a Girl

Austria's Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik arrives at the European Union heads of state and governments summit in Brussels December 14, 2006. REUTERS/Philippe Wojazer (BELGIUM)
You'll have to forgive me for missing this photo for a few days, but --VA-VA-VA-VOOM!-- I'm sure it was worth the wait. Some may say that combining ruffles with a scarf isn't a good choice, but those fashion nay-sayers need to realize that Austria's affable giantess plays by her own rules. Oh, it's going to be such a beautiful Winter!

If the post below this was, for our Condessa "I'm with stupid" then this one is "I want to be with HER!"

Wowwa... Scarfapalooza has begun! This is what I call a festive holiday season!

She should have some flashing christmas lights around her neck and that would finish the look off just fine. A girl can't have too much anything when it comes to setting fashion trends.

Wow! That magnificent woman has more style in her gigantic little finger than all the other diplomatrons combined (are you listening, Tzipi?). She's got a kind of Susan Sontag/Ben Franklin/Diane Sawyer thing going on that works. It says, "I'm smart, but I can accessorize with a fichu, too, dammit!" in a way that certain shiny-hose-wearin' globetrotters would do well to emulate.

There's something so Marlo Thomas/Mary Tyler Moore about Our Ursula! She has vim and vigor!

So what if she's a harbinger of a titanic master race who will eventually replace and enslave us? If their oppressive regime is run EU style, I'm sure there will be a Minister For Not Crushing Humans Underfoot.

Okay, it's inevitable:

"I for one welcome our new titanic teutonic overlords (overladies?)...."

And you're so right -- she is a kind of Dusseldorfy "That Girl"!

There's just somethin' about bob haircuts and ruffles that says "My Name Should have been Helga"

Ursula is the best argument for the restoration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the dissolution of which was thegreat disaster of the twentieth century -- a worldwide cataclysm whose negative consequences we are still enduring today. Woodrow Wilson -- in many ways a kind of academic Dubya -- was simply wrong in trying to "make the world safe dor democracy." What such a naive policy gave us was fascism -- just as Bush's/Condi's "democratization" of the Middle East is giving us Islamic fundamentalism.

Apologies for my pretentions at attempting to be serious. After all, Condi & her crew are a just minor historical farce -- if we could just leave it at that; but we can't, because that farce regrettably has turned into a tragedy.

Oooooo....I'm all a-tingle. I thought she was carrying a riding crop.

"BAD BUSH!"

{sound of smack smack smack}

"BAD CHENEY! TAKE THAT YOU LITTLE DICK!!"

{Sound of smack followed by gunshot, followed by eerie, scarf folding silence}

Let us pray for all that remains.....

And anonymous, Wilson, an 'academic Dubya'....hmmm....so either way we're screwed. Perhaps we need Middle brow. Middling talent. Middle of the road. Homogenous. Horrors. But it actually makes sense. We need.....CLINTON?
