In fact, all the offices and back hallways at the National Gallery of Art are decorated with decades' worth of old signs and "trailblazers", so it's like walking through a history of the institution, which is pretty cool.
Rather than call them sprinklers you may also refer to them as "fusible links" which sounds like a pretty dangerous thing for a piece of safety equipment!
