Indocondia Roundup!

I'm not totally sure, but I think there's a pro-America plant in the above AFP photo. Things were a little different for Condi in Indonesia: people were nice to her (except for the meanies outside, who chanted, "Condoleezza go to hell!"), children laughed and waved flags, friendly muppets abounded, so it was a nice break from her last couple of weeks. And all it was was a little nice chatty visit to say, "Thanks, Indonesia, for not hating us quite as much as some other countries." It was also just a bunch, and I mean WAY more exotic than she's used to. I mean, this isn't your usual "two matching armchairs and a fireplace" shot:

Guarding Condi : A US security personnel guards a room where US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda are meeting in Jakarta. (AFP/Jewel Samad)
But don't be disappointed, because here's what you've all been waiting for, the matching armchairs shot with the President of Indonesia:

You know, it just goes to show that when you're Condoleezza Rice, no matter where you go, there you are.

That second photo is a freakin' masterpiece.

Someone needs to tell the Secretary of State that in Indonesia crossing one's legs is highly insulting and offensive behavior, indicating disrespect. Note that the bottom of Rice's right foot is completely exposed to the man on her left. This is MOST insulting.

If you examine any photograph of Indonesian officials, you will notice that they ALWAYS have their feet flat on the floor.

I learned this from living for 8 years in Indonesia: surely the Secretary has someone on her staff who can clue her in.

Regarding the foot: I wager it's on purpose - "Fuck you for hating us".

Regarding the Marimbas - OMG! I love them! The little guy withe cymbols is killing me! They look like Gaurdian Angels rockers! The keyboard dude is pretty lame, tho'.

The one with the cymbals takes the job very seriously. Not sure its gender though, could go either way.

That is some groovy wordage on the part of the anonymous agent. (I don't think the "rabidly" thing is a malapropism.) Try chanting it while wearing a beret and playing the bongos. Cool Daddy.

As to the foot faux pas, forget about the exposed ankle--one foot is in Jakarta and the other is in East Timor. How does she do that, you ask. Part of the explanation for this phenomenon centers on her chair--it's just way too low. What else is a girl to do with her long and shapely legs? Otherwise, with feet flat on the floor, she'd be picking her buck teeth out of her kneecaps.

I'm really glad you guys liked the Marimba Ponys, too. I usually don't post stuff like that. Thanks again to Krimpet for sending it my way.

Kudos to Krimpet for the Marimba's.

Condi looks like her fabulous buck-toothy self.

Is that security agent a Spock fan, or do some eyebrows do that naturally?

I sure hope littlest Marimba with the cymbals gets worker’s comp for the permanent hearing damage.

I'm thinking maybe the foot thing is on purpose, too, because the first thing I thought when I saw that pic was, "What's with the weird legs? Doesn't look remotely comfie." If the chair is too low, she could fold them both together and point her feet away from the guys.

Maybe Indonesian food gives Condi gas.
