Washington Post Snubs the Bible Again

So I was reading in the Post this morning about this supposedly Earth-like planet recently discovered by scientists. They describe the heavenly orb as being 28,000 light years away. That means the light we see from that planet today is 28,000 years old.

And, again, why is the Washington Post so biased? Why must they relentlessly pursue their secular agenda? Nowhere in the article is there the balance which would be provided by religious leaders, who no doubt would point out that the planet couldn't possibly be that far away. I mean... God only separated light from dark about six thousand years ago (see the technical illustration above), right?

I've never seen any scientists-of-faith, come to think of it, challenge this whole notion about objects so far away from the earth that the light we see from them predates Creation. I wonder why not?

I mean... really!

Actually the creationists have a delightfully wacky argument to solve this conundrum: Einstein is wrong when he says that the speed of light is a constant. In fact, they argue, the speed of light used to be much faster, thus allowing things to look now like they are more than 6,000 light years away. (I'm not kidding; they really argue this).

For some fundamentalists this argument about the speed of light is sort of hard for them to understand, so there is, natch, another and simpler argument. Objects more than 6,000 lights years away don't really exist; God created simply the light "in transit" to make it look like they do.

There is a cottage industry of wackos who spend most of their time coming up with theories like these to explain dinosaurs, distant planets and all the other inconvenient evidence regarding their belief that the universe is only 6,000 years old.

fascinating clif. i don't think i've ever heard the explanation for the speed of light. thanks for the holy truth on that matter!

I don't think it matters much how far away it is, I mean it isn't like you can plan a trip, and even if you could the place sounds kind of Godforsaken to me.

If we can just find a way to combine the NSA's domestic spying program with intelligent design, I think we can silence all of these God-hating science folk...

That's great, clif! That was really bugging me.

Also, you could simply say that Einstein himself was put on the Earth by the Devil simply to fool man.

I wonder what it's like to have a totally uncritical brain? Because it sounds kinda like fun for an afternoon.

I've heard someone argue that while the 6 "days" were passing God had not yet invented time and something about translating the ancient word meaning "unit of time" into "day" Presto! The Earth and the stars can in fact be very old because a) time wasn't invented yet and b) those illuminated manuscripts were poorly translated.
