Sarah Palin's Most Enthusiastic Defenders Just Now Realizing She May Be Venal, Self-Serving

You have to read this hilarious thing at Red State because Erick Erickson, he of blackball all Sarah doubters fame, is wringing his hands that maybe, just maybe the big Tea Party Convention coming up in Nashville is a little... expensive and fake, and that Sarah may be "ruining herself unintentionally" by speaking at it for, like, a gazillion dollars.

In other words, he's worried that "pureheart" Sarah is being co-opted! And seduced by money! And corporations! She's unintentionally becoming filthy rich!

This is so funny because, of course, this is absolutely everything Sarah wants, to be co-opted for obscene amounts of money. Erickson conveniently doesn't mention the other Palin news, that she just cleared a deal to be a Fox News commentator*, which, um, isn't corporate or about money at all, right? And does he think that her deal with Harper Collins for Going Rogue was, like, a grass roots thing?

Erick, honey, Sarah Palin is about as grass roots as Comme des Garçons Barbie. Eventually she probably won't even get out of bed without a sponsored cup of coffee.

Still, I'm really looking forward to this Tea Party Convention, the one no teabaggers can afford. Should be a good show. It'll be really interesting to see a fledgling political movement protest itself.

*I haven't seen much on what, exactly, Fox News is getting for their wheelbarrows of money delivered to Sarah. They're not giving her a show, because they know she'd be incapable of such a commitment.  So she'll appear on Fox shows... which she does anyway. So again, what's the deal? Will they simply get first refusal for TV appearances?

Sarah Palin is shrewd enough to gather up as much cash as she can before the teabaggers and other ignorant conservative lackeys figure out that she's as phony as Lou Dobbs's ultra white teeth.

She was handed the option of scads of money or heaps of power, and she went for the scads. It's a lot less work.

For real power, like Rupert Murdoch or Dick Cheney or even Rick Warren, it takes hard work that just isn't in her. You can't get real political power in this country just by getting jillions of friends on Facebook, though that may change in the next twenty years.

She may yet decide to Have It All. It'll be interesting to see just how dumb the teabaggers are. Very, I'd say,

Good to see you on the Palin beat.

I am guessing that FoxNews PalinBarbie will maybe have a guest series or something. Hopefully it will involve snowmobiles and shopping sprees because THAT would be awesome.

I would be surprised if Palin actually appears at the CrazyCon. She seems to back out of an inordinate number of 'confirmed' appearances. Although, she and Michelle Malkin are total BFFs these days, so maybe...

I was shocked to read E Erickson's article. I seriously doubt, though, that most of the TEAfolks think anything is awry. They let the movement become a well-funded wakeup call to the GOP rather than remain a grass-roots semi-Libertarian movement.

Also, to gush briefly, I LOVE your blog. Until now, I never fully appreciated the artistic genius of Nancy.

What would be more horrible - going to the Teabagger Convention, or this?

That, blogenfreude, for sure.

That picture at the top alone is worth the price of admission.

The Weekly Standard cruise makes one -- or at least me -- hope for a vast expansion of Somalian piracy.

I liked TBogg's comment on Erick Erickson re this same issue:

"This must be so sad for Erick. It’s like finding out your girlfriend is a hooker when you thought she just worked late and dressed kinda hot."

If Rei Kawakubo dresses her, I'll watch!

This breaking news was so predictable the only uncertainty was the date of the announcement. I look forward to many Bumpit posts from you, Peteykins. Glad you're back.
