I never have figured out what exactly Leif Garrett did to earn such Tiger Beat praise. Was he an actor or a singer, or what?
I'll bet he's a friend of Dr. Drew Pearson these days. Just sayin'.

Leif did a little acting, a little singing, but not really much of either. He mostly posed for Tiger Beat photographers, I think.

I always think of Leif as "The one with all the hair."

What makes Marie, girl superstar, so special? Why wasn't she special enough to get a picture on the cover?

I also blush to say I am not sure of the last names of Robby, Willie and Lenny or the first names of the Keanes. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Leif mostly just stood around and looked good in tight pants. And he sang and stuff. But it was mostly the pants, a noteriety to this day the poor man is trying to overcome.

But Shaun, oh, dear lord, the unstoppable Throb-of-Heart that was Shaun Cassidy. He was THE tween slobber-magnet for a couple of years there in the late 70s. I remember my younger sister and all of her peers having that "I'm going to marry him" level of crush on him, until puberty hit a few years later and Rob Lowe and Simon Le Bon came along. To this day, I'm pretty sure she seriously considered naming her first born after him.

I'd totally forgotten who Pamela Sue Martin was (Nancy Drew to Shaun and Parker's Hardy Boys). I feel slighly bad about that.

So...much...feathered hair...

Leif showed up in Tucson at a party at Cheryl Graham's house. Were you at that one?

I wonder who Pamela Sue is snorting coke with these days.

Terry, yes! I'll def be telling that story.

Yes, Leif Garrett came to my birthday party. I think it was 1984, and he was in town filming "Thunder Alley" (I had to look that up). This was the third birthday party of the 80's (my 20's). They usually had some kind of a loose theme. That year we were really into African music, so we had these quasi-African print textiles hanging on the walls, and we called it "ethnic." I only mention that because it is so cringe-worthy, and I want to get it off my conscious lo these many years later. Anyway, the textiles, the music — that was the extent of the theme.

It was at my house, and I had gone back to my bedroom for a "rest" after what was probably a lively mixture of substances, and when I returned, there was Leif Garret in my living room.

The next year's party theme was something about hard times and low-budget, so we held it at a bar. I remember putting on the invitations that there would be no frills, and no Leif Garrett.

Tiger Beat! I had a college classmate who worked for them in the 60s. She got me into a recording session of the Mamas and Papas, and onto a panel with Frank Zappa and others to discuss the generation thang at the Beverly Hills B'nai Brith. I had dinner with Frank Zappa, though I remember being too nervous to eat much.

Old Tiger Beat. Home of pretty boys, yes, but source of opportunities for a young Lulu Maude.

Cheryl, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to hear from you! Thanks for sharing; I'll fill in what I remember.

Folks, the fabulous Cheryl was the drummer in my teen first band! Yay!

Commenting late here, but the Los Angeles Times reports Leif has been arrested for heroin possession.

Again.

You can read about it on my new blog, It's News 2 Them™, where I keep track of the tabloids so you don't have to.

How did I think of that clever sub-header? I think you know how.
