Whippin' Up the Base Until it Forms Stiff Peaks

Here's a hilarious example of how Fox Nation feeds the never ending flame-wars which comprise the site:

Wow, really? Did Obama really call the US a Muslim Country? Haw, well, no. If you actually go to the linked article at the NY Times, what Obama is saying is that due to the United States' large Muslim population, we could be seen as "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world." Quite a different statement from that offered by Fox!

But, of course, everything at Fox Nation is geared towards maximum flammability, to encourage the most outraged reaction from their lunatic followers. Hence, the predictable reactions:

  • Original birth certificate!!!!
  • ATTN: FOX News & AMERICA!!! It's time to take back our country & HONOR the Constitution of the United States of America! AMERICA is sick of the deception, lies, "IDENTITY Politics........the HOAX! Acorn - bust this story wide open. POTUS - produce the birth certificate. FOX & AMERICA, it's time we stand up for our constitutional rights
  • Does this explain to all of you why he has not chosen a chuch to attend in Washington????? It is time to have him impeached
  • Could this man be any BIGGER an enemy of the United States of America?
  • This makes me sick!! I really wanted to puke when I heard this!!

Mission accomplished, Fox. The SECRET MUSLIM strikes again! Wheee!

Edited to include this image from Fox Nation's current top story, thanks to Jake Tapper:

I work with a Black woman who said she'd never vote for Obama because he is Muslim. I said going to a Church for 20 years was a long time to pretend to be something you aren't. Just got a blank look. But then she also says people used to work hard until the Unions came in and made everybody lazy. This from a woman who milked an injury for more than a year until they gave her the job she wanted.

Uh, OK, but take another look at your comment and note that the woman's blackness has, in fact, nothing to do with anything. What a strange detail to include.

I tell ya, PSP, I've been out of the country for a little while so I'm watching what's happening there through the internet only, and I think the country has collectively lost its mind. I can't bear the idea of having to return.

Thank goodness there are at least a few sane people (like yerself) still there. But I do worry for you.

Hermite, that's kinda silly. These people are a very, very small minority. I'm assuming most of them don't live in big, homo-filled cities like DC.

What I don't understand is that if Barack Obama is a Muslim, why was the Jeremiah Wright thingie such a big deal? How can you be a Muslim and be put on the defensive during the Presidential campaign by the sermons of your CHRISTIAN minister? The Fox Nation Nuts' and the Freepers' lack of logic is astounding.

I love the commenter who says Obama should be impeached for not choosing a church in DC! That shows the true FOX viewers' grasp of the Constitution.

But, I think Obama looks sharp in his white hat, and perhaps he should do more to bring back hat-wearing among men ....

This quote is the one that bothered me the most.

Could this man be any BIGGER an enemy of the United States of America?

Clearly, this person is not only a rabid right winger, he or she has also been infected by the TV show Friends and the lame comedy stylings of the horrible writing staff.

My momma may have given me the same first name as Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc, but I still hold them in the deepest contempt, as do all right thinking Americans.

P.S. And, oh yeah, I'm older, so I had the name first, and I'd like these no talent bums to stop using it.

Thank you for trolling the open sewers that make up Fox Nation and bringing us their collective comedic genius, Princess. And I certainly hope your assertion about these kooks being only a small minority is true. They're certainly a VOCAL minority, seeing as how they have their own tv network and all.

Peteykins said...

To me, dguzman, Fox Nation goes much farther than the news network. It's almost like Fox Nation is Fox News' id.

Note also how they like to pose things "innocently" as questions: "Is Sotomayor racist? What do YOU think?"

Ad hominem attacks in the form of a question are a Fox News classic strategem.

Is Fox News run by a bunch of brain-dead, old, hypocrites? What do you think?

It's not just the Fox commenters -- If you wanna give yerself an aneurism, check out the comments on Jake Naked Ambition Tapper's blog. It doesn't matter what the subject of the post is -- the nutty nuts have really glommed on to that site.

bushy! (sorry, couldn't stop myself)

But hey, just remember: We report. You decide.

Of course, we want you to base that decision on our completely biased wingnut "reporting," but it's still YOUR decision! Now go buy a Shamwow!

Great job Princess! I am really bugged out by Fox Nation. Free Republic and Townhall are stone cold crazy, but are grass-roots and not sponsored by some horrible media conglomerate. Fox Nation is as crazy or crazier but is sponsored by a frigging huge publicly-traded company. If some blog wants to say something crazy, I mean why not? It's a free country. But a blog sponsored by Fox to feed red meat to the mouthbreathers -- I think there is a difference. I wish more blogs would call them out like you do.

I'm curious as to which constitutional rights are being violated here. I've scoured the Bill of Rights for the part about "freedom from having and recognizing a large Muslim population" but no luck so far.

Why do I see the same quotes wordferword on the Washington post comments? I swear it's just one guy with a hundred different names!
