Mandala #1, 1997, reverse painting on glass, 18" x 24"
I haven't done a reverse painting on glass or plexiglas for several years. It's a difficult, boring technique. I used to do it a lot, and thought at one time that I'd try to become a famous painter. LOL. It was fun for a while. I exhibited in group shows at La Luz de Jesus and Track 16 in the LA area, had one-man shows at the Sushi in San Diego and Metropophobobia in Phoenix, and appeared in a smattering of other group shows, coffee house exhibits, etc. I failed to set the art world on fire, or even to singe the edges a little.

What can you tell us about the technique? It's hard to tell from the photo. Also, what about the photo itself? It doesn't look like a photo of a painting on glass. It looks more like a computer graphic. I'm super confused and totally intrigued.

That's a real photograph of the painting, although it has issues. It isn't totally accurate. But it is a photograph!
Reverse painting is a technique in which, in this case, opaque paint is applied on the back of a sheet of glass so that the composition shows on the other side. So, in other words, the dark outlines of the greyhounds were the first part painted. It's, as I said, opaque paint, so each color is painted discreetly; there's no "show-through."
It's a technique usually associated with old clocks and mirrors and such.
I love this shit. You are one deliciously twisted individual. I really like the stuff up at Peteykins, it fits you so well. When I looked at it I was all like, "no one else could of come up with this". Don't lament the art world,it's full of dunnder heads and pretenders. They aren't why you do this stuff. You do it because of the deep psychological trauma.

Being a Greyhound mom, I love this.. it' very cool..
I was lucky - nay, priveleged - to get to know the Pony during his residence at fark.com, way before all this Condi silliness. He really is an excellent artist, and produced an astounding range of work there. Go to his home page and dig into those galleries, there is treasure there. And Greyhounds. And monsters made of vinyl.
PSP is a very talented artist, Photoshopper and writer.
He's sort of my idol, which is saying something considering most people bore me to tears.
I think this is pretty freaking awesome, too.
