have these hayseeds no shame? it's total exploitation.

Even people with spare chromosomes can vote. I'm glad she's making her voice heard ( even though it's rather creepy exploitation ).

Kind of amazed it hasn't already been photoshopped to read: "You'd have to be retarded not to vote Obama."

Either that, or, "Trisomy is my favorite Palin."

Kinda makes Palin's prostituting her kids at every opportunity seem downright quaint by comparison.

I think it is terrible that they are exploiting that girl, but I think your mocking headline is also cruel to her.

Yikes, this one crosses a line. Not funny. Poor taste. :(

How am I mocking her? The headline is mocking Palin's other fans. Fuck you.

There's a little Down's guy who spends a lot of time at the library where I work. He is excited that Palin has a son "just like me."

He's a Republican, anyway. What I can't say to him is that she should be putting lots of time aside to raise her Down's baby. His own mom has put lots of time into him. If elected, Palin would just stick Trig in a drawer in the file cabinet.

In the picture, I thought that Downs 4 had something to do with a chugalugging contest. I'm sure that Palin downs at least 4.

I can't think of anything more tasteless than naming your Down Syndrome child Trig. I mean, that's just perverse.

Diane Griffin said...

Went on the google and found a few things about the name -- Trig is a family name, it was Todd's uncle's. Sarah seems to have tried to claim that the name is a scandinavian name meaning "brave victory", which no one else can seem to corroborate. There is a Norwegian name, "Trygg" which means "safe" or "reliable", there's also mention of it meaning "strong".

As far as the photo subject being the "smartest Sarah Palin fan" goes, there may be a bit of truth there. Questions of whether Palin is a "good mother" or not aside (and I don't feel like I'm in any position to judge: I have no reasonable perspective,) she has Trig for a son, and is therefore more closely acquainted with his issues than the majority of us will ever be.

Well, I stand corrected on the name, then. Still, it's uncomfortably similar to some of the genetic terms surrounding Down Syndrome.

Well, all I can say is that my sister who teaches special needs pre-schoolers and a brother & a brother-in-law who work with special needs young adults transitioning from school to work...

ALL have nothin' good to say about Republicans in general and Sarah Palin in particular. Republicans obviously don't give a real shit for healthcare or education or anything else that would help a kid with Downs. (as an aside: ask teachers what they think of No Child Left Behind)

The way Palin is using her baby (plus her other kids) as a prop is a disgrace and I don't care how much fun this sweet girl is having at the rally she's being exploited by assholes.

PS - Princess, my teacher-siblings would think the title is hysterical -- and right on. THEY would get it.

As for the tsk-er PSP said 'fuck you' to, let me add my fuck you to the list.
I once asked how we knew Trig had Down Syndrome and not Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (since I'm still sure it's Bristol's kid) and some blogging bitch went berserk and trashed me all over the Internets.
Fuck her, too.
If you don't like someone's blog, just leave. They won't care and you'll feel better.

Hi, me again (the one you all want to go fuck off). If it makes you feel any better, I voted early and voted for Obama (and all the other democrats, as usual). Unfortunately, I live in Nebraska so it won't matter.

Still love the blog and PSP -- just didn't like this particular post. Rock on.

To the humor-retarded: The headline is funny 'cause, while it may be hard for you to believe, it is quite possibly true. My aunt had Downs, and I beleieve this young woman is most likely showing support for Palin out of some (obvs. misguided) sense of personal issue loyalty, and prolly not bcause she thinks the IL Senator is nigger-monkey terrorist-fucker.

From where I am sitting that makes her the most rational person in the room.

Such strong language from a Princess should be welcomed. We all should join in a big chorus of "fuck you" more often, rather than letting our opinions die sad, lonely deaths at the hands of p.c. crazies.

The whole photo and the poor misguided girl in it are quite sad. And are those her insane parents on either side of her? Sickos. Complete sickos.

"Problemwithcaring" got it exactly right.

Indeed. You can even see that the old ass in the purple shirt is actually lifting her left arm up.

Ass. Oh wait, I said that already.

my youngest daugter is bright funny, charming and autistic, we go everywhere together and sometimes people look at me like why isnt she acting more composed. and sometimes people totally get it, and we make awesome new friends that way.
sometimes i get mad when people use the phrase "retarded" when they mean unthinking or incurious, and sometimes i say stuff to them about that word and how i dislike them using it that way. and sometimes i just let it ride. And that's all ive got to say about that.

Thing is she was against all things for Special Needs people (education related expendatures, assistants in schools, special olympics) but then she had (ahem..not going there) a special needs BABY (she hasn't seen anything yet...what makes her an expert?
She negotiated a pipe line from TransCanada to which she has ties pre-Governor. No-bid contracts and all. This is her big energy experience...the pipe line hasn't been built yet, TransCanada is broke and the contract was so poorly executed that the pipeline doesn't even have to be built!
She is only for abstenance education, not sex-ed...but her 17 year old is knocked up.
And that small town she was the mayor of and touts this as experience?...is about 20million in the whole because of her "experience".

And how is this for socialism...
EVERY...EVERY person in Alaska gets a check every year from the Permanent Fund. (google it)
This fund is generated by money sent from oil companies to the State, and the State invests that money in real estate, US bonds, etc. Then the revenues from those investments go directly to the residents of Alaska. This year, in July, Sarah Palin added 1200. to the payments just to "help people out". IS THAT SPREADING THE WEALTH AROUND???? The people of ALASKA are taxed the least and get the most money from the goverment than any other state.
She is a socialist....
WHY ISN'T SHE BEING CALLED OUT ON THIS??????
I was on Air America Radio yesterday about this...and people are wondering why the Democratic party isn't calling her on her own socialism..

I think originally this sign was made to allow Hugh Downs to express his support for Sarah's rocking through his subordinates without getting too close to the campaign, but perhaps peeved by getting gym memberships instead of their regular bonus checks this Halloween season, the help decided to PUNK Hugh and found this girl on the way to the rally... yeah, that's the ticket...

In all seriousness, the ovation this child probably received is one of the loudest and warmest she will receive in her life; and her parents probably believe that Sarah Palin will be a champion for these children and adults who are far too often ignored, shunned and ridiculed in our society.I don't believe that they are "pimping out" their child as David Shuster might remark.
I believe their faith in The Diva is sadly misplaced. I imagine the struggles of special needs children rarely crossed her mind until the day she learned her family would include one. All you have to do is look at her record prior to the birth of Trig. She was not only not a champion of the cause but a hinderance to it, cutting funding for the Special Olympics, when the state is awash in oil money and per diems for living in your own house.
What we do when others are not looking is the true example of our character.

(PS is Hugh Downs even still alive? If he's slipped his earthly shell, please don't haunt me, ghost of 20/20 anchors past.)
