Please, No Applause

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, right, waits in line to leave following the conclusion of the entertainment portion of the Official Dinner for the Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi in the East Room of the White House, Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, in Washington. Oh! The glamour! What could possibly be more appropriate for Condi than yards and yards of blood-stained organza? Fabulous. Please note, too, that she's carrying her little piano-themed Judith Leiber purse, probably the WASPiest accessory known to man (average price: $2,000).

There are two amusing Condibits in Al Kamen's column today, one about Dr. Ferragamo disappearing a photo of her with Bush and John Bolton, and this:

Some administration officials have been making their final calls on groups with which they've worked closely for many years. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stopped by to speak to the department's Advisory Committee on Democracy Promotion.

After she was introduced, she noted: "This is my last meeting with you as secretary, and thank you for not applauding that fact."

It's funny because they dislike her! But really, Condi has totally spread so much democracy around by this point, it would be totally overdoing it to dollop on any more.

Also: did you know Condi approved torture? Well, yes, if you read about it in April, but for some reason it just keeps getting re-reported, almost like it's news.

Pre-empted applause! Very proactive.

1.Is that Frankie Valli standing on front of Giulliani?

2. I can't believe Condi debuted the dress she's planning to wear when she appears on HBO's "True Blood."

Yes, it definitely looks like Invite an Italian night at the White House. I love the glare at the camera by the blonde. Is that Judy Giuliani hitting the peroxide bottle?

Condi must have taken one last look in the mirror while dressing and thought, "OMG! I'm Thandie Newton!"

This is a rare find! I'm only disappointed we can't see Judith G. in it - is that her behind the guy that looks like Frankie Valli?

And is this a new hair-do for Condi? Last time we saw her she had the long pageboy.

She does have the kinda swept-up formal 'do going, G.

And IS that the latest Mrs. Rudy? If she were shorter, I'd say it was Jenna. She likes pasta and Eye-talian stuff, I hear.

But who's that glaring blonde on the far left? I think she just burned my retinas with that withering gaze.

And...Condi's escort/date/boyfriend/whatever, Gene Washington is in the background, too.

They're all really tired of standing in line for their prime rib, whipped potatoes, and vegetable medley.

You can feel their blood sugar dropping from here.

Yeah, well I hope Gene Washington isn't hoping to get any Condipoontang tonight because he ain't selling what she's buying.
