Gorgeous Thandie Must Slouch, Grimace to Capture the Essence of Condiness

Thandie Newton, who plays Condoleezza Rice in the movie 'W', is seen in this undated handout photo. (Sidney Ray Baldwin/Handout/Reuters)

Poor Thandie! I can imagine her on the set, with Oliver Stone continuously bellowing, "Thandie, doll, can you make your shoulders sag down more? Thanks, babe."

I'm actually getting "despondent misanthropic gormless hopelessness" from that still. Good work, Ms. Newton!

I am personally going to give this film "Four Slouched Shoulders" for my review.

So unfair! Condi has lovely posture! Of course, one of the problems is that Thandie is too young to show us all the range of Klingon expressions that Condi can give us, because her forehead is too young and smooth.

The whole cast is too young if you ask me.

I just watched an 'extra feature' on a Futurama DVD on how to draw Philip Fry's basic character design. The slouch+paunch that Thandie/Condi is exhibiting is almost exactly the 'peanut shape' that they use for Fry's torso.

Not that Condi and Fry have much more in common. Except of course, being completely out of their league in a surreal set of circumstances and among a wildly dysfunctional cast of characters.

Do you recall the Dotoressa ever wearing a sweater set like that? It doesn't seem terribly characteristic.

On the other hand, the costumer certainly nailed the jewelry - it's the dreaded torque!

The stylist had just one bit of counsel to offer: don't wash your hair. It'll slick down and flip up better.

That sweater set is all wrong.
As a fellow lesbian, I know neither Condi nor I would be caught dead wearing puce, lavender or pansy .
And that pout?
Scowl, yes, but pouting's for girly girls.

It's all wrong. Condi never, ever slouches. Newton should have gone back to her Condi game film.

And yes, Condi never, ever pouts. Her mouth is usually straight across. Everything is posture and poise with Condi.

To answer muscato's question; yes, Condi actually had a sweater set like that. The famous "Whisper" photo of her and Laura Bush down at the ranch shows Rice wearing a sweater set just like the awful one that the Props Department saddled Newton with, only Condi's sweater in the photo was a deep blue.

Jesus, what was in the bong Oliver was smoking when he did that scene?

Holy horrors of miscasting! It's just not possible for La Thandie to do "justice" to La Condi.

Zippie, are you saying that la Condi is butch?

A pearly femme she is.
