In particular, as secretary of state, Ms. Rice has been treated like a celebrity, appearing on Vanity Fair’s best-dressed list and in an article in the November issue of Vogue. There are Web sites devoted to persuading her to run for president — www.draftcondi.us says her nomination “would be the greatest political move of the century” — and a blog obsessed with her personal style: www.sparklepony.blogspot.com includes a Rice “hairdo alert system,” and on Jan. 29 it posted a photograph of an Italian designer’s gown that features Ms. Rice’s face. That's page A-12 of the print edition.

Metablogging: Pink Pony Noticed by NY Times
Helene Cooper, in her latest article in the NY Times filled with, oooh, just oodles of mean things about Dr. Ferragamo, wants people to know that some of us feel that Condi is more --so much more-- than just a mere secretary:

A well-deserved mention it is, too! Next time they should be sure to credit their sources -- it is the NYTimes after all!
You're better than that gray old bitch, Princess. And they never get the details right, their reputation notwithstanding.
Young Pink Pony v. Old Gray Lady! I can sort of see why, while describing PSP'sPB, they failed to mention the name. Copy editors at NYT are thoroughly trained in stuffiness, and would probably suffer core dumps if they were to allow the words "Princess Sparkle Pony" to appear together in print.
Congratulations again, Princess. The path toward fame that you are trotting down suits you.
Oh wait! Citing the article in its current state: ...and a blog obsessed with her personal style: <> includes a Rice “hairdo alert system”....
Reads to me like someone is trying to name the blog, but somehow the name comes out as angle brackets. I'll check back later to see if it's corrected.
I noticed that and cleaned it up here. Maybe it was a flubbed ahref link?
Congrats Princess...
There's a famous review in the NYT of a Meat Loaf album where the artist is referred to as Mr. Loaf. Had this new article been more thoroughly researched, we might have been treated to a line such as:
Ms. Pony declared: "It's simply the thing in which to be seen at your next war crimes trial."
A friend of mine gave me a three month subscription to the online Times. Do I check it every day? Mais non!
Do I check PSP every day? Mais oui! Because to know know know PSP is to love love love her.
BFF!
Your fame/notoriety grows!
Well, there is a nice direct link. Thank goodness! I was a little - nay, A LOT -fearful about what I might find here, considering the deep emotion I have for Condi (BTW, did you know that "condy" or "condi," short for "condyloma," is doctor-speak for genital wart? ...makes me smile every time I hear it) but now I see the fabulousness of it all! Long live PSP!!
Woohoo! I fixed up the entry to show that they fixed the link. Wheee!
Princess - how typical of the Times - they get part of the facts right and the context wrong. I too check your site before hitting theirs.
I just saw the fix in the article also as well. How sparkletastic is that?
(Sorry for my previous double-clickness!)
w00t!
...and the NYTimes article is now up on THE HUFFINGTON POST! WOOHOO!
Oh that wacky liberal media!!!
I am thrilled, but I do think that the gray lady misseed the bigger picture. PSP PB is about so much more than style. It's about matching chairs and invisible friends, and Canadian love interests and so much more!
Oh PSP...you must surely be a national and international icon of the blogging world! I hate to admit it but I am not looking forward to seeing Dr. Ferragamo vacate her office in the next two years!
Late in sayin', but I offer my heartfealt congrats to you, "Ms. Pony!"
Finally read the article. While the NYT has irony-detection apparatus that is several generations behind, check out the final paragraphs and in regards to PSP's brilliant metaphor of DC As High School.
So Old George told Larry that Bob wrote that Old George said Condi wasn't a good kisser, and Condi got all "Like, is this true?" to Old George, and he said like "I didn't say that" and Condi got all "Well, Bob wrote that and I know you talk to him!" and Old George kinda sighed and thought "It was a lot easier running our secret club before we let the girls in."
Really... does it get more high school than that?
Condi is extremely qualified but she is in difficult position to take on a the presidential race '08.
I would like to see women run whether they are dems or republicans, after all, we are equally capable and hold up more than half of the sky.
"While the NYT has irony-detection apparatus that is several generations behind"
Word. They wouldn't know cutting satire if it were shredding them to bits in front of a paying audience with large signs that read "Cutting satire!" all over the theater, with Tibetan monks droning "SAAAAAA-TIIIIIII-UUUUUUUUR" onstage with it.
"SAAAAAA-TIIIIIII-UUUUUUUUR"
Dear Anonymous,
Back here on planet Earth, we don't really think Condi is the example you want to be holding up when discussing the equal capability of women. Agreed, she's "extremely qualified" to set up bogus photo-ops, but beyond that, she's pretty much a female Dan Quayle.
I think America is finally ready for competence in its President which pretty much rules her out until after the Rapture.
The NYT seems to imply that concern over Condi's hairdo is somewhat frivolous.
Bastards.
I'm sure Helene Cooper first became aware of PSPPB by deciding to investigate the gleeful giggling of some underling while passing by their cubicle. "A blog, you say? About Ms. Rice? What a horrid shade of pink. The hairdo thing is funny I guess."
So when it came time to write this article, I am sure she scraped up that tidbit from her residual memory without further investigation. And it is her loss, too, not to know the profound depth of wonderfulness that is PSP's reportage here.
Awwww, z7!
I have a totally different version: in my mind, Ms. Cooper is a hardened and long-term Pony Pal™ who has been champing at the bit (get it?) to throw in a reference to the Pink Pony. And that makes her a Pony Pal Supreme™!!!
Hmmmph!
I am seething with envy.
Okay, P, your version is better, and much less cynical :)
