Justice Sunday Wrapup

OK, so yesterday was Justice Sunday II, Electric Boogaloo, and it had all the buzzwords we've come to expect, especially "unelected, activist judges", a phrase which was repeated over and over like a mantra from hell. Here's a typical comment from a true believer:
At the rally Sunday, Mike Miller, 54, of Gallatin echoed many of the speakers comments on judicial power, saying he believes Supreme Court justices try to create laws with their rulings instead of interpreting the Constitution.

"Activist justices -- we're trying to find out what we can do to stop that activity," he said. "Our laws are based on the Ten Commandments."
Oh, are they really? Kiddies and Pony Pals™, I know this has been pointed out many times, but let's review it again, shall we? Here's the simplest, ugliest Ten Commandments graphic I could find; even a child could read it:

Let's review, shall we? OK, so the first five commandments... um... well, no, there aren't any US laws based on those, are they? I like to think that this blog, all by itself, shows that graven-image-making is alive and well and perfectly legal. Also, for instance, while it's nice to honor your mother and father (I think the creators of this graphic added 'mother'), I don't believe it's actually enforced by any laws. Now let's look at the next five: Oh, dear, it looks like only two of them are enforced by US law.

That's only two out of ten! Can you imagine trying to enforce the other eight?

Naw, it always said 'and mother'. Eh... minors tend to need adult permission to do stuff and you can't perjure yourself, so you can kinda say two more. Also, some foggy memory of really old black and white movies makes me think that adultery used to be illegal...

Well, you can't perjure yourself in court, but there's no law about those li'l white lies some of us (not me!) tell every day. And I've never seen a child hauled off to juvenile hall for refusing to eat his broccoli, so I stand by my assessment.

Yeah, I like arguing with people I essentially agree with. It's a sickness.

holy shit! - that quote's from that asshole dobson. The family guy, the ever popular rouser of the faith and consciousness. You know some people actually listen to him on the radio? What the hell's next, The Holy Hour with Man O Faith Bush and his trusty sidekick Dobby? That guy wouldn't know God if He bit em on the ass.
