He's Here! He's Here! I Saw Him! I Swear!

In this image made from video, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivers from Baton Rouge, La. the Republican Party's official response to President Barack Obama's address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday Feb. 24, 2009. (AP Photo/APTN Pool)

This is the GOP's best hope? Haw. Obama had to do a good job last night, and he did, so poor Bobby Jindal had to be great, and... well, even the Fox News people, the people paid to say he was great, were underwhelmed. Jindal began with a mealy-mouthed, patronizing and perfunctory "first African American, etc." statement, continued with, basically, a campaign speech about himself and his family which came across as being cribbed wholesale from Obama's own campaign stump speeches, and then... well, and then it was blah blah blah tax cuts blah blah blah. All of this was delivered in an unrehearsed-sounding, breathless pitter-patter. Who knew it was possible to sound sing-songy and droney at the same time?

Sarah Palin must have loved it.

EDIT: I was listening to "Garden" by the Fall this morning, and the line "See what flows from his mushy pen" jumped out at me as a perfect description of Jindal's speech. I also changed the title of this post to another line from the song. Perverted by language, indeed.

Why is Bobby Jindal on the side of the volcanoes?

Wasn't that bizarre? The volcano remark?

I love how Bobby's example of how government doesn't work is....Bush's response to Katrina.

Yeah, don't don't forget that's a standard Republican trope: you are wrong to expect anything from the federal government.

Bobby Jindal - son of far-away lands, friend of rough but lovable sheriffs who don't truck no bureaucratic hoozy whatzit, and Bill Nye impersonator!

Is this what it takes to be Republican-presidential? Questionable Bubba bone fides and a junior high civics class understanding of the world? Feh on him.

If Saturday Night Live wants a Bobby Jindal impersonator, they should get Jack McBrayer, the guy who plays Kenneth the page on 30 Rock. Put a black wig on him and he's perfect.

Piyush sure looks Muslim to me. What are the Repubs thinkin'?

Jindals voice = Deputy Dawg

that blue cartoon dog....

Funny you should say that, because Bobby has one of those horrible "Blue Dog" paintings in his office, right behind his desk!

As unskilled spectators maybe the repubs are savin' their big guns for a future chance to win or at least scare the shit out of a lot of people. lessee who would THAT be..? DOH, Sarah P. of course!

The volcano remark was a jab at Palin, begging her to criticize the earmark as her state now has a volcano about to erupt and they depend on this research, and this money......he was rather pathetic, eh?..the only one seeing stars was Todd Palin

There's that supervolcano beneath Yellowstone... watched a documentary on it... really scary... and a sensationalistic what-if made by the Discovery Channel which sucked, but left me with the lasting impression that if that sucker ever cuts loose, we're toast. The whole damn world is toast.

I guess somebody in Congress saw those flicks, too...

I loved the volcano comment, since crazy Sarah Palin skipped CPAC and the Governors Convention to monitor a volcano and act all political-leadershipy.

Glennis said...

That Bill Nye comment is harsh!! But, yeah, now that you mention it - Bill Nye. Or Fred Rogers!

I thought he sounded like Marty Stouffer and looked like Gilligan.

His accent is a cross between Apu from the Simpsons and Deputy Dawg.
And Lord, save me from Pencil Necks.

Wait, Princess Sparkle Pony is a Fall fan? Awesome!

Jindal's remark was dumb, dumb, dumb.

A good night for Palin and Alaska volcano monitors. She skipped CPAC because, let's face it, these voters are in her hip pocket, especially after Jindal's rather lame performance.

I like Bobby, but can you gin up some Jindal hand turkeys?

The Fall and Bobby Jindal! Who but you could come up with such a conjunction? More Fall-related post titles please!
