Body Language

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Republican vice presidential running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and Cindy McCain talk on the tarmac after a rally at the Air 10 Jet Center, Hangar C, in Cincinnati, Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster)

Is it just me, or is McCain clenching both of his fists awfully tightly? Buyer's regret? Look at the faces of Cindy and the assistant! This is not a happy exchange.

I think that Cindy and Sarah are sharing a curling iron or something. Look at those wavy tresses.

Frankly I think the conversation went something like this:

McCain: Sarah my friend, you can't keep signing autographs of Palin 2012 posters at campaign events!

Sarah: Shut up old man or I will dress you like the ancient moose that you are.

someone should point out to sarah (from someplace far out of range) that for every finger she has pointing at the failed canditate in front of her; she has four fingers pointing to her own train wreck of a public image...im starting to get rather gleeful!
should things continue as they are, lets make a pact to gloat profuselly

I've only seen the one part of the Brian Williams interview, and Chuck Todd is quoted as saying they had no chemistry. I didn't pick up on that from the first clip.

This one looks like moments away from throwing things, and talking over one another because each one thinks the other is a frigging idiot.

And for the first time, they may both be right!

dreux, I've got you pencilled in for gloating, but I really can't make it to the party until very late on the evening of Nov. 4, at the very earliest.

Looks like someone's getting a timeout! Watch out Sarah, he's been known to hold his breath until he passes out! Wait, maybe that's her plan!

The bubble over McCain's head says "I'd punch her if it weren't for these damnable short arms!"

Is it me or is Cindy have a bit of a Stevie Nicks Moment?

- Tousled hair in breeze? Check.
- Full shawl deployment? Check.

If her skirt is calf-length and/or is appliquéd with feathers and sequins, or if she starts to show the slightest sign of pirouetting, John and Sarah better get down, because there's a cloud of fog and a flock of pigeons heading their way!

@Muscato--all they need is a "room with some lace and paper flowers."

Princess--is there any way you can use your massive network of connections to bribe that assistant into telling us what was said?

Ha, ha, ha! You silly Pony--they're singing!

It takes time to get those moves down.

Especially when you haven't decided who's the lead.

Palin's double pointing is very aggressive. And his fist clenching is very threatening.
Whatever is being said, clearly she is in the top dog position.

LOL: dipastur

It's so sad when Republicans fall out.

I'm so proud of myself. I typed that without ROFL-ing.

Cindy to Sarah:
Stand back, stand back!

A mild dissent: It's really hard to tell from the photo, but Palin appears to be addressing not McCain but another person outside the frame behind and between Cindy and John. For all the weird power dynamics between the two candidates, I just can't see number-two using this hyperdominant physical gesture toward her number-one.

Yes, John is clenching his fists. He's tightly wound as a rule and I have heard (POW alert!!) that he is always either clenching or rubbing his hands. Chronic pain from his injuries. Another clue here is that Nicole Wallace--the Bushie-era communications flack standing in the frame behind McCain--is not transfixed by what should be a hypercharged confrontation. She's looking at something else.

A special plea, PSP, re: Neimansgate? Could you find out what foundation the makeup artist is using on Palin? I say YSL touche eclat for the undereye concealer. The total charge for makeup is a shocker. But what high-end cosmetics were deployed. How much per oz? Stuff like that. I'm dying to know.

I feel for McCain....
I totally get where this is coming from.
I hired this girl one time to work the evening shift at my coffee bar cause she was attractive and bubbly and always was good with the customers. But she was dumb as a bag of hammers.
She started getting bossy with me and tried running the place, I wanted to fire her ass, but the clientelle loved her. She couldn't even count change and wasn't qualified to run the coffee maker!
So, yeah, I get it. I feel his pain.

Um, no paxr55, if you zoom in on it, she's getting in McCain's face, and the woman behind McCain is craning her neck to get a look at Palin's face. That must have been one angry face--look at how clenched her jaws are. Makes me almost feel sorry for McCain. Ugly stuff.
