Audioblogging: "The Whistle Tape" Live Performance, 1985, Tucson

This is another live performance by the four-piece PS Bingo band at the awful Nino's Steakhouse in Tucson. This performance is later than the previous post, so we're a little tighter, some of the songs have evolved, and new songs, like Diane's wonderful "Bullet Catcher" and Joe's gorgeous "The Waterline" were created. Also noteworthy is that we passed whistles out to the audience, which might not have been the best idea from a recording standpoint, but it made the audience feel involved (for once), so why not?

This is, again, me on vocals and percussion, Diane Griffin on bass and vocals, Joe Humble on guitar and bass, and Dave Perry on drums and percussion. We are joined by Steve Hahn on trombone, Bob Lorenzen on vocals, and Jeff Farr of Les Seldoms on vocals and guitar.

This show features some fun covers: an absolutely terrible version of "I'm a Bug" by The Urinals, an instrumental take on Flipper's "In Life, My Friends", and even a whacked-out take on "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly.

It's a trashy and raucous noise-rock extravaganza! The 85mb zip file can be downloaded here.

A note about the artwork for these releases: I've tried to stay true to the period in which these recordings were made. For the most part I'm using graphics we used at the time, typefaces I would have used at the time, etc. This one is a terrible picture of a murder victim I clipped out of a tabloid shortly after this show was recorded.

Enjoy?

UPDATE: For some reason, I thought "Joe Humble" wished to remain anonymous, but I was incorrect about that. He is, in fact, Steve Kennedy of Seattle, Washington. I can't even begin to imagine what a good guitar player he must be by now. Steve! I would really enjoy it if you'd post some of your recollections about this music.

Thank you thank you thank you for these, Peter. I don't know if you're getting feedback, or how your download stats are looking, but I downloaded the second one last night and I am definitely getting everything you're posting here.

Glad to hear, Diane!
