Spanglish Solidarity

It's nice and everything that the Phoenix Suns, which I think is some sort of sports team, is going to wear special jerseys in the playoffs:

The Phoenix Suns will wear "Los Suns" on their jerseys in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals on Wednesday night, owner Robert Sarver said, "to honor our Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation."

But... Los Suns? Really? Wouldn't Los Soles be a little more appropriate?

*God, this gets on my nerves. When I post a wire photo, I date and credit it, usually providing the full caption provided by the service. A lot of my favorite blogs don't do this, and sometimes it's really frustrating trying to source the image. The worst offenders: Think Progress, Talking Points Memo, Andrew Sullivan.

I'm pretty sure their Spanish- and Spanglish-speaking fans call them los Suns. You don't translate team nicknames; it's like a proper name. Otherwise, it'd be the Montreal Canadians down here.

There are, of course, The Los Angeles Angels. A baseball team.
