Photoblogging: Uniform Fetish

Click for bigger.

These images come from a trailer at the same event as the violent Blackhawk bus I posted yesterday. I think it was for the National Guard? Like the bus, this was expensively produced, and almost comically arch in content. Here are your heroes:

It was police week - saw a lot of them in vintage squad cars and their fort was set up close to the big Mitch Snider homeless shelter. They have some fun contests - one features police dogs lunging at a padded man who acts threatening.

To borrow a porno title: we are becoming a nation of Copsuckers. All these decades of valorizing fictional cops in every medium have led most (white) people to forget that the average cop is precisely this: a gym teacher with a gun. Often too he is a little man corrupted by the little power he has over little people. Black people don't forget this, the cops provide frequent reminders.

...a gym teacher with a gun... love it!

The guy on the right is especially not enhanced by his Dudley Doright chapeau...

Yeah, it was police week. The National Police Memorial is just across the street from the National Building Museum (it's sort of a Vietnam wall with cops' names on it). They had some kind of wreathlaying ceremony there this past weekend, I think.

We all can wish for the Public Safety Pension these guys have.

Ditto on the "gym teachers with guns" statement. I dated one.

I happened to be in DC for my daughter's graduation and everywhere we went there were gun-totin' men and women, even more than the NRA states out west! We finally stopped a trio of them and asked what was going on--not without some trepidation--to learn as noted above: National Dead Policeman Week.

BTW, I'm sure glad to see PSP back!
