Whoah, psychedelic! Above is not the 1st edition, which also has a fantastically stupid cover. It's safe to say this dates from the late 60s.
I love this cover for Vulcan's Hammer, also not a first edition, probably from the mid 60s:
And another:
Also, please compare the exuberance above with the tasteful yet boring and pointless covers of the modern editions.

Of course, if you read them on a Kindle, you never look at any cover at all!
(By the way, my verification word is hilarious this time.)
Those covers are a monument to late 20th century design.
I have a few editions like that from the 60's. The paper quality was pretty acidy too, and not in the psychedellic way. They turned yellow faster than the teeth of a coffee addict with a two-pack-a-day smoking habit.
OOOOooooooooo my visceral response is the opposite - I love philip dick covers like I love the phrase "sparkle pony'. That 'world jones made' cover is AWESOME I said in caps ...more cover art (all cover art?) is at http://www.philipkdick.com/works_covers.html
I really love the Game Players of Titan cover. It reminds me of Gilbert and George.
Phil Dick sounds like a gay gas station attendant.
I wish I had a bathing suit that looked like the cover of the "World Jones Made".
some of my most important artifacts of self are the original Analog magazines that my father kept from my childhood, I remember even before i could read looking at the woodcut style drawings and thinking it was a window to his world.
ps welcome back sir, you have been missed! love the junk drawer!
Obviously, the guy with the sideburns and the literal hammer is much, much cooler than the flying brain control hammers with eyes. The first edition sold for 35 cents and the better cover sold for 75 cents.
Case closed.
The "Vulcan's Hammer" cover was by Kelly Freas, whose art graced countless issues of Analog, and probably literally hundreds of Ace paperbacks I bought back in the 60s. Among my favorites were his interior illustrations for a lot of the "Ace Double" editions.
A pity this guy on this cover is a dead-ringer for L.Ron Hubbard...
