Obama "Deeply Disappointed" in Papa Bear's Beardlessness

President-elect Barack Obama introduces New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as nominee for commerce secretary during a news conference in Chicago, December 3, 2008. (Jeff Haynes/Reuters)

OK, so this is hilarious: Obama keeps not calling on Fox News at his press conferences, because they are mean, bad people. Until today! So what does the intrepid Fox "reporter" do with his golden opportunity? He asks about Bill Richardson's beard. No, really:

Fox’s Wendell Goler began by thanking Obama for calling on him, and then proceeded to ask about the TARP funds and Bill Richardson’s now-removed beard. Obama began by offering a light-hearted take on Richardson’s beard:

"I’m going to answer this question about the beard. I think it was a mistake for him to get rid of it. I thought that whole western, rugged look was really working for him. … We’re deeply disappointed with the loss of the beard."

Oh, us too! Us too! Bring back the beard, Secretary Papa Bear!

Now that it's a presidential command, I'm sure he'll stop shaving. Yay!

I couldn't believe that he asked about Bill's beard either, however I did like ole Billy with the furry face better.

Dusty, it really shows the shallowness of Fox, doesn't it? I mean, this is a shallow blog, but I'd never call it "news." What's their excuse?

And Anonymous, I hate to admit it, but I totally agree.

:( Can't we have at least one bear on the cabinet? I'm so so sad right now.

Princess, you might never call this "news", but it looks more and more like the news every day. You put effort into the shallowness and raise it to an art form at your best. The people who are getting paid are just naturals at shallowness, and there is nothing artistic about it.

It's the difference between talking about Sarah Palin and her fans and being Sarah Palin or one of her fans.

The first thought that popped into my mind when I saw P.B. walk out behind the President-elect today was, "Oh, damn, he's shaved off the beard." My second thought was, "Princess Sparkle Pony will be SO upset!" I guess that means this blog now has a permanent place of honor — right smack in the front of my brain.

Plus the beard hides those formidable chins.
