She Just Heard About James Buchanan

First lady Laura Bush, right, is presented with a complete set of First Spouse coins by the Director of the U.S. Mint, Edmund C. Moy, left, in the East Room of the White House, during a ceremony celebrating the First Spouses Gold Coin Program, Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in Washington. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

I bet this photo captures the exact moment after Mr. Moy chuckled and said, "There'll be one of these for you after you're dead!"

But seriously, who are they going to use for Buchanan? His niece? Ew!

OK, and also? At this same photo-op? This is weird:

First lady Dolley Madison re-enactor Lucinda J. Frailly, of Canton Ohio, speaks in the East Room of the White House during a ceremony of the First Spouses Gold Coin Program, Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 in Washington. Behind her is a rendition of the final coin of 2007, honoring Dolley Madison. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

And it just goes to show, you never know when an ordinary-sounding photo-op may take a turn for the surreal. I've seen Dolly* impersonators before, but this one's kinda frumpy.

*Ha, ha! I meant Dolley!

first spouse coins???

Geez...like if they keep distracting us with all kinds of glittery new dollars, we won't notice they're also printing wads of cash with no backing?

oooh, shiny!

they better makes these with gold since the ones with George, Andrew, Abe and Thomas are worth about as much as a roll of Charmin with little pictures of Laura, Jenna and Barbara on them...

When I grow up, I wan to be a Mamie Eisenhower impersonator - I mean "re-enactor". The skirts! The pearls! The bangs!

Imagine the easy life, on the other hand, of a Pat Nixon re-enactor - all you'd have to do is sit, in twilight, with a Tom Collins, nursing a lifelong grudge against life itself.

Finally, back on the Dolley-front: what's with the chinhugging neckline on that frock? Any picture I've ever seen of Mrs. M., she's sporting some serious frontage...

Who are they going to use for Buchanan? Why, William Rufus King, of course! I can dream, can't I?

There is a big show extravaganza in this... The Dead Presidents, Wife Version.

And at the end of the show you can show your ticket stub to collect your own dead wife coin!

Plus Laura looks dead most of the time now, why not just make the f*cking coin and be done with it?

I know some big hulking hairdresser friend who will make a great Barbara "Babs the Impaler" (thanks distributorcap for the nomenclature!)impersonator.

Hey, I think I saw that Gold Coin Platter on e-bay. Pickles must be running out of cash for illegal Xanax scrips. Or blackmail payments. Whichevah.

Pickles looks like a blow-up doll in that photo.
And don't get me started on that cat-puke colored garment she's wearing.
