Floral Offerings for Magnificently Bescarved Ursula

In this picture made available by the foreign ministry United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, left, his wife Yoo Soon-tak, right, Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, center, and Secretary General of the foreign ministry Johannes Kyrle, partly hidden, pose for a photograph at Vienna's Schwechat airport, on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007. Ban Ki-moon arrived in Austria for a three-day visit. (AP Photo/Bernhard J. Holzner, handout)

Everybody loves Ursula, let's face it. This is one of the few areas where the Pink Pony is solidly in the global-political mainstream. I mean, do you think the new head of the UN would bring his wife to meet Condi with a sumptuous offering of gorgeous tulips 'n' daffodils? Well, probably, actually, but you know what I mean!! I wish we had an affable giantess like La Plassnik for secretary of state, one who would actually negotiate with difficult people rather than just glumly offering photo-ops and pre-recorded Bushisms. Dang.

I mean... yeah, people love Condi, but more in a "OMG, I've just got to write a profile about you for a glossy magazine" way, not in a "OMG, I want to bake you cookies right after I stop enriching uranium" way.

You know how the republicans want to change our constitution to read 'only American citizens and those naturalized citizens born in Austria can become president'?

Let's all vote for that amendment and then at the last minute we'll sneak Ursula in over that body builder guy!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but her scarf is so delightful...

The question is, what is the large lump at the end of UberUrsula's scarf?

A surprise mason jar of kim chee for the Korean couple?

A portable space heater?

Angela Merkel?

In some ways, I fear the approach of Spring and Summer, since those aren't really scarf seasons, although tasteful wraps, light kerchiefs, and the dubious cravats and the like may still be possible.

And then I remember that shot of Her Largeness in a bikini (was it in Majorca?), and VA-VA-VA-VOOM!
