PIERRE, South Dakota (AP) -- Legislation meant to prompt a national legal battle targeting Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, was approved Wednesday by the South Dakota Senate, moving the bill a step closer to final passage.Article.
The measure, which would ban nearly all abortions in the state, now returns to the House, which passed a different version earlier. The House must decide whether to accept changes made by the Senate, which passed its version 23-12.
EDIT: Is my choice of imagery too obscure? Does this help? I tried earlier to come up with some jokes to go with this story, but it's just too scary.
UPDATE: I came up with a joke! I foresee a booming business opportunity for travel agents to arrange out-of-state "vacations" for rape and incest victims.
Ooops, that's totally not funny.

Hey, had abortion been legal at that time, Joan Crawford wouldn't have been able to buy those two adorable moppets and torture them.
My sister and I took my Mom to see "Mommie Dearest" one year for Mother's Day. Mom sure as hell toed the line the rest of *that* day.
:)
I have been in mourning for all those females that will be using their vacation time to get out of the state and take care of business if the situation warrants.
When will the lemmings wake up and see the fundi's have taken all their rights away?
I guess I could understand this bill, if everyone else on Earth was obliterated by Cylons, and the population of South Dakota was forced to flee on the Battlestar Galactica in order to survive. If the survival of the human race depended on rigorous repopulation, then it might make sense to insist that women are too incompetent to make their own decisions.
Sorry, it must be the sparkly, pink hormones talking.
Sometimes you just gotta stick with the old tried and true method... A good old tumble down a long flight of stairs!
oh, I get it,
"NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!!!"
