Trent Lott is Terribly Confused

So yeah, yeah, yeah... new ethics regulations for Congress and blah blah blah. I'll leave this argument up to the other bloggers. One part of CNN's report on the race to "overhaul" elected official/lobbyist relations, however, really stuck out to me. See, the Democrats' plan would bar lobbyists from "giving anything to members of Congress, including meals, whereas the GOP proposal would lower an existing $50 limit to $20." Well, that last bit really got Trent Lott's head spinning:
Sen. Trent Lott, a Mississippi Republican, said changes are needed on Capitol Hill. But he said Republicans shouldn't "jump out there and just throw everything on the table, just sort of in a panic."

"Some of it is outrageous," Lott said. "I mean, now we're going to say you can't have a meal for more than 20 bucks. Where you going to -- to McDonalds?"
That's right! He's totally, utterly bewildered --to the point of stammering-- by the concept of paying for his own food. Mr. Lott! Most of us have to do that every single day!

Wow, where can you have lunch for only $20 per person?

Well everywhere most Americans, including many professionals, go daily. Even Brownie goes to Baton Rouge.

See now if Strom Thurmond had been elected, Lott would be getting the royal treatment at Chili's around the town and wouldn't have to think about eating somewhere like McDonalds where he'd be surrounded by all sorts of peons.
