I saw a tour bus (one of the hundreds that crawl up and down Park Boulevard to the "World Famous" San Diego Zoo from every part of the country and Mexico) and, as usual, it had an ugly spray painted design on the side of it to hide the monotony of its great girth. A stripe in navy blue swooped from the front to the back. The stripe was perhaps supposed to represent some kind of perverted comet ,and another sort of asteroid crossed its path and together they made a curved cross design on the side of the bus. I thought it was a twisted cross or a twisted christian symbol. Perhaps the designer just thought, "Itt doesn't matter what we put on the side of the bloody bus, just cover it over so that we can charge more than the cheaper rusting cross-border buses."
And these words were printed on the side of the bus above the ugly cross design, " & Bedford". There was a large empty space in front of the "&" and I thought, "Did the partner die, or get divorced, or just get out of the tour bus business?" And I think that's a good title for a book. To start with the word "&" and then another word after it, like " & Carrots" or " & Desiree". I've not seen the title of an article or a company begin with an ampersand. It would be funny to cross out one of the "Johnson"s on the baby powder container so that it read "& Johnson".
