Does that tie into the pun at the end?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11084955.post-85974020910142042752012-07-22T13:49:25.678-04:002012-07-22T13:49:25.678-04:00"The end of a perfect day" is a line in ..."The end of a perfect day" is a line in a very popular parlor song from the period which describes a sunset scene. So I'm guessing Tad just made the guy's named "Jay" to pun on the song.Peteykinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15960842777164948590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11084955.post-76354061210003034852012-07-21T23:09:40.456-04:002012-07-21T23:09:40.456-04:00Do you have any idea what the 'end of a perfec...Do you have any idea what the 'end of a perfect jay' line means?

I've been following your Tadstravaganza for a little while now and enjoying it muchly! What Tad seems to do is construct his "primary gag" for the cartoon, and then he'll often add unrelated "secondary gags" in the corners or margins, almost like a feature within a feature. It's as if the comics had a dual purpose: one, to create a funny drawing of a common situation, and the other to put forward the latest slang terms he wanted to promote, almost like it was a game to him to see what would catch on.

If you look at his earlier "Daffydils" feature, it's complete chaos, totally unfocused. If anything, these later ones are quite a bit more coherent.Peteykinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15960842777164948590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11084955.post-11345205642016786932012-07-20T17:24:33.485-04:002012-07-20T17:24:33.485-04:00If it's a rush job, it doesn't seem like i...If it's a rush job, it doesn't seem like it, but that's what a good artist can do, I suppose.

His little asides, like the "Yes, we have no" stuff . . . how was it supposed to be read in the context of the comic? I never quite "got" it. Was it the snappy equivalent of "Shave and a haircut, two bits" or a running gag thing (which he may or may not have started, but which enough people realized/understood), like an SNL beaten-to-death joke?

I don't mind it, or anything, but it's just not something you really see anymore in the funnies. Kinda curious about how it came and went.samael7https://www.blogger.com/profile/13307706556252825261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11084955.post-13656387008114021812012-07-20T12:37:38.798-04:002012-07-20T12:37:38.798-04:00I hope that you have THE BANANA!
